Iron Man Cast

Friday, September 29

Glad this hit the mainstream. I picked it up on Newsarama.com but I've been told it was on MSN and Yahoo! So incase you haven't heard...

At his MySpace Iron Man Movie Group, director Jon Favreau wrote as the news was breaking:

“It is true. Robert Downey Jr. is Tony Stark. I am about as excited as I can be. I saw what he can do and he is extremely enthusiastic about playing Stark. I can say with absolute certainty that there is no better choice. The humor and emotional dimension he brings truly raises the bar on this project. Get ready.”

There's a lot more: [full story...]

Comic Book Run

Thursday, September 28

Well, I was spoiled this week. To get my comics, I didn't even have to leave the house. It was so great. Big shout out goes to my homeboy Greg for making the delivery.

Here's the good stuff:

52 # 21: For a weekly comic, it's almost like four monthly comics, stick with me here... there are four major story arcs and they seem to rotate every week which one to focus on. Oh well, I'm a DC Comic whore. This week we see the new Infinity, Inc., Lex Luthor's team of superheroes, and the Teen Titans show up, showing a bit of a change since "One Year Later".

Secret Six #4: This mini-series is dieing down.. here's the shocker moment though: Mad Hatter vs. the Doom Patrol.

Blue Beetle #7: This ish tells the tell of what happened during Infinite Crisis... this series is dieing down from what it was at #1, I think I'm going to drop it.

Teen Titans #39: Intro new Titans Zatara and Miss Martian. Um... interesting.

Justice League of America #2: No excitement. New Avengers... this ain't.

Batman #657: Batman's son vs. Robin. I'm glad they finally gave Batman a son... other than the ones he adopts and teaches to fight crime, if the DCU keeps turning more and more towards Kingdom Come... this is one added change I don't mind. I do however see them taking this back, where he's NOT Bruce Wayne's kid. I so see this happening.

Supergirl #10: In this issue, Kara adopts a secret identity, and decides to give it up. It's not like she needs one anyway. I like how this series turned it's self around rather quickly. It had it's troubles starting out with the whole issue delay/writer thing. And after a rather dull "OYL" story, it went right into focusing on making Supergirl an interesting fresh new character. And this series has really mixed her up in the DCU, which I really like since I collect a lot of DC.

A Comic Book Shocker

No, this isn't about Civil War. This isn't about a new series or the death of a character. With all of the major events occuring in comics today, not in many years have I had this reaction.

I looked up on Newsarama.com... my first source for all my comic book news... and saw this title:

STEPHEN WACKER LEAVES DC

I literally said "Holy Shit!" and truely was shocked.

He's not a legendary figure, he's not famous for his work... hell, he was hired on in 2000... but I saw the man in San Diego, heard him talk about DC Comics... he was the editor on 52, a weekly comic and had a weekly column on Newsarama to comment on every issue.

This saddened me.

Heroes - Thoughts

Well, dispite the fact I was at work instead of at home... I made the time to watch (with only limited commercial interuption thanks to Nissan).. Heroes Monday on NBC.

There was much to do about this show while I was in San Diego. I've been told this is NBC's answer to ABC's Lost. A popular show that's grown a cult following. Lost hasn't really sold on me yet, but I figure one of these days I'll end up watching it thanks to DVD. But due to it's "super" nature, I decided to give it a shot.
From what I've picked up before watching, it's supposed to be something like a handful of people sorta just start discovering they have powers. It's supposed to be based in real life. But I don't know... the first show only showcased like five characters out of like... fourteen or so. Which is fine... but of those first four, most of their lives or personalites where kinda... f'd up.
And there's this mystery concerning "super evolution" or something, that I don't really care about, that I'm sure will run through most of the season.
The only highlights of the episode I suppose would be the almost too hot for TV moments provided by Ali Larter, and Masi Oka who plays Hiro, our teleporter guy from Japan. He was quite the entertaining character, the one who actually seemed delighted with his powers.
I plan to watch more. Although, it's style has yet to grasp at me yet.

Spaceballs: The Cartoon!

Got this from IGN.com today... too bad we gotta wait till fall of 2007 on a channel I don't even get. Read on:

Mel Brooks lends his voice and writing talent to an upcoming animated series based on his film.

by Eric Goldman

September 21, 2006 - After some unsuccessful attempts at a theatrical sequel, Variety reports that an animated series based on Mel Brooks' film Spaceballs is going forward. MGM is producing the series, which will begin with an hour-long pilot, followed by 13 subsequent half-hour episodes. Spaceballs will air in the US on G4.

The 1987 film was a science fiction parody that used Star Wars has the basis for most of its plot and humor, and starred Bill Pullman, Daphne Zuniga and the late John Candy. Writer/Director Brooks played two roles in the film; the evil President Skroob and the Yoda inspired Yogurt. Brooks will reprise these roles for the series, lending his voice to both characters. No word yet on whether any other cast members from the film --which included Rick Moranis, George Wyner and Joan Rivers -- will also be voicing the characters they portrayed.

In addition, Brooks has co-written the one-hour pilot to the series with Thomas Meehan, who shared the screenplay credit on the film with Brooks with Ronnie Graham. Meehan will also supervise the writing for the remainder of the episodes.

A modest hit when first released, Spaceballs has proven to be a long term success for MGM thanks to its ongoing popularity on DVD and cable.

The animated Spaceballs series will debut on G4 fall 2007.

Comic Book Run

Did my comic book run again last Wednesday. Got myself a lot of comics, including a few that are scheduled to come out next week! WooHoo! So I don't think I'll be going next week. Also ran into Greg there too, which was a surpirse.

You know the drill, here's the list:

Superman #656: Still reading this arc by Kurt Busiek. This issue was mostly Superman Vs. some alien. Funny how Superman always seems to be going up against some new random creature that's almost as strong as he is. Kinda makes him seem less "super". Also in this issue, a flashback arc of a young Clark out of High School doing his traveling of the world... as he did before becoming Superman. This issue... eh.

Ion #6: The Guardians revieal just how important Kyle Rayner is to them: Very Important. Turns out he's their "reset button". Also he's one powerful mo-fo. The reveal of the Monitors in Brave New World seem to be making a play here soon.

Catwoman #59: It's the story arc that wouldn't die. It's like one giant OYL arc, revealing hardly anything of interest... dragging out the fact that Selina had a frickin' kid... so just tell us who the father is already!

The Flash #4: Really didn't read it yet, just flipped through it. I was wanting to finish up this first story arc, but it's not keeping my interest. I'll probably drop this.

Robin #154: More of the old school Robin tales I remember reading during the earlier issues of this run. But is that a good thing? A re-occuring theme in both Robin and Nightwing... there's always some new wanna be hero trying to get trained by one of these two, and this issue sports a new one of these in the form of a teleporting kid named Dodge.

X-Men: Civil War #3: This fizzled out. Is it over? Hell, I don't know. I should stop reading it.

Astonishing X-Men #17: Yeah! I like this book! Just what an X-book should read like. We finally find out what was inside the mysterious box, and how they used Kitty to get into it.

Civil War #4: So check it, I managed to get the Michael Turner varient cover for this bad boy. I really like this series so far... so far. They did one thing that was a little of a bump in the road, but then they got back on track.... here's a spoiler warning for ya... they made a Thor clone. Yeah. Feels like a cop out. But then they split up the Fantastic Four, and made up their own version of DC's Suicide Squad.

Birds of Prey #98: Haven't read it. Looks like some new Batgirl wanna be makes an appearance. Don't look for her to stick around though.

52 #20: More of the space adventure. Just not digging Lobo.

Advanced copies of....

Trials of Shazam! #2: We see the new costume for Billy Baston.. a.k.a. Captain Marvel... or Marvel, as I think he's going by. Or was it Shazam!? Anyway, the shake ups continue for all things Marvel, in the DCU.

X-Men #191: I started reading this title when the new creative team jumped on, and until now it's just been mild. This issue, I enjoyed.

JSA: Classified #17: Haven't been too much into the Classified issues of either JLA or JSA. But I couldn't pass up this gem featuring a team-up... yeah... team-up, of Hourman and Bane.... drawn by Scott McDaniel.

Smallville Stuff

Above is a picture of Justin Hartley, who will be playing Oliver Queen/Green Arrow on Smallville. I thought GA would only be in one episode, like most guest appearances, but when the promo photos for this seasons Smallville came out, he was part of the cast group shot... which was interesting to me. I'm guessing he's gonna play a bit part in the season. And to top it off, I found this out this morning:

In other Smallville news, the previously reported episode featuring other DC heroes who have appeared on Smallville -- Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman, along with Green Arrow -- will be called "Justice."

The episode won't begin filming for a few weeks and will likely be the 11th episode of the season.

Heck yeah! Fricken Justice League time.

Comic Book Run

Friday, September 15

My first "official" run to my new location for comic books. It's been like musical chairs with comic book stores this year. Wonder how long this location will last?

Anyway, a few friends, my girlfriend and I went Wednesday to ... I'm not even sure where we went. It's in Missouri, off of Barry Road, across from the Zona Rosa. I don't know where that is. It's horrible, I know.

I picked up two weeks worth of comics, plus one bonus feature. They are as follows:

Martian Manhunter #2: I love the character and appreciate the much needed changes DC has made to him. Overall I'm glad for the series, and it isn't bad, I'm just not digging the storyline.

52 weeks 18 and 19: Never a dull moment. Status quo's changing all over the place. And more mysteries evolve.

Outsiders #40: Well, I started to NOT like this, and then it got better again. And so it's fun to learn what happened during 52.

X-Men: Phoenix Warsong #1: Wasn't going to get this originally. It was put in my stash to see if I'd like it. It centers around Cyclop's group of X-men as the Phoenix entity (?) starts to influence three of the school's students. I gave it a shot at least.

Aquaman #44: Haven't read it. It's boring. I want my old Aquaman back now please.

Green Arrow #66: Dug it. Begining of an arc that flashbacks to the past missing year, where Green Arrow gets hardcore in training.

New X-Men #30: Still good, story arc got a little strung out here though. Sucks that I have to wait another month to see what I thought was going to happen this week.

Green Lantern #13: Nice work by Johns tieing in both Infinite Crisis and 52 stuff here.

Uncanny X-Men #478: Getting better. I generally don't get into space stories. This hasn't sucked enough for me to drop it though.

Walking Dead #31: This is getting long. It's not bad, but time isn't really flying by in this arc. At least things are looking up for our main characters.

And that bonus surprise... the variant Justice League of America #1 cover by Michael Turner.

Moving Forward

In a nice contrast to my previous post, after getting comics on Wednesday, I along with a few friends helped another one of my friends sister move into her new place. Well, actually just kinda showed up at the end for the heavy lifting items.

Kinda felt nice being "neighborly" and all.

In related news, I still have a bunch of my crap still in my dining room. Yeah, have not really been too motivated to unpack in a hurry. Maybe I'll be done with it by Halloween?

Reverse Moving

Wednesday, September 13

Last night a friend and I moved everything I had from a storage unit I was renting back into my house. This was for when I thought I was going to be changing houses. Anyway, moving a bunch of crap from storage BACK into a clean, empty, spacious house is kind of a downer. True, you get cool stuff back, but it takes up all that space I once had.

Like I said, it's a downer.

Going out to eat at Arby's and following it up with a shopping spree at Nebraska Furniture Mart helped lift my spirits though.

Ended up getting Smallville Season 5, Papa Roach's latest CD, and Grey's Anatomy Season 2 for my lady friend.

Tonight.... comics.

Hollywoodland... The Movie!

Last Sunday I had off from work and I had planned on seeing this "Superman" movie called Hollywoodland that had this "great comeback" acting role by Ben Affleck.

I gathered up some friends to accompany me to go to the local multiplex to see it. A short 2 hours and six minutes later, I wasn't all too impressed with the film. It wasn't bad, I just hyped it up that I thought it was going to be a lot better.

I knew going into it that it was going to be about the dectective work delt around George Reeve's death, but I was hoping for more "Superman" stuff. Plus I'm not that big of an Adrien Brody fan, so that didn't help. But the critics are right about Ben's performance in this movie. I think he did a great job, infact, he won a best acting award for it already in Venice. Perhaps there will be some Oscar buzz for him next year? I hope so.

After the movie, a few of my friends accompanied my girlfriend and I back to my house where we stayed till about midnight. I bought some pizza and we all ended up playing boardgames.

Oh, and I now hate Trivia Pursiut. The game is the devil.

Comic Book Run

First off... in honor of my recent comic book store closing, I whipped this up pic (above) in the wee morning hours of Sunday. Classic.

(If you don't get the reference you a.) don't know comics and b.) should do a google image search of "Spider-man no more" and you'll get it.)

So this would be my first week without new comics since Limited Figures & Comics opened its doors in Leavenworth. I did go to a comic book store though, so at least I flipped through the latest issue of 52 to see what was going on. I'll read it next week.

Went with a few of my comic friends (Mike and Greg) on Thursday to a few comic hot spots and so that they could pick up the second season of Lost, a show I've yet to fully give a chance to. It's day will come I suppose.

I did get to flesh out my collection of Young Avengers. Picked up a needed issue to Supreme Power. Almost have all my missing issues for a few comic runs.

Looking forward to two weeks worth of comics soon.

Don't Piss Off the Canadians

So, you're Marvel Comics... early in the year you kill of Canada's premeire super team Alpha Flight. Every last one. Then, a few months later, you go to a comic book convention in Toronto. Better have something nice to tell them.

How about this? Omega Flight! Canada's NEWEST premeire super team.... complete with at least one true Canadian! Somewhere in there. Maybe him in the middle?

The rest, perhaps? Storm? Arachne (Spider-Woman II)? Captain America or U.S. Agent? Um... is that Beta-Ray Bill?

Saturday, September 2

For the past week now I've been drowned in too much Myspace.com

My girlfriend is addictied to it. My room mate is on it. I've got requests from friends wanting to be my "friends". And yes, that does mean I do have a myspace, but I only signed up so I could leave a comment on somebody else's page sometime in January and haven't looked back since.

So, should I at least develop my personal Myspace page?

I hate the idea of doing something because it's "trendy".

Feedback?

Comic Book Wednesday

Hello comic fans. This looks to be one of my last true Comic Book Wednesday spots, as my regular comic book store is no more. Therefore I might not always be getting my weekly stash every... well... week. So for those who remember it will now revert back to Comic Book Run.

The Comics:

Teen Titans #38: A nice little story taking the Titans to Russia, trying to hunt down fellow Titan Raven. Here we get a glimpse as to who has been a Titan during the one year later arc. A lot of new faces. Interesting.

52 #17: A space issue featuring Lobo. I for one am not much of a Lobo fan, although I was a big fan of Slo-bo (or Lil' Lobo) in Young Justice.... but that's a different character altogether. We did get a topless Starfire though! Didn't really show anything... d'oh. Kind of another slow week.

The Boys #2: This issue picked up from the first one I must say. I was all but ready to quit this, but now it's getting a bit more interesting. A lot more violent too.

Superman/Batman #29: For such an important title, the stories in this book seem so much like gimicks than anything of importance. At least they're letting other characters join in. Existing characters I mean, not the handful of throwaways like Loeb used to make up.

The Trials of Shazam!: I never seriously collected anything featuring Captain Marvel. Truthfully I really think it was because of the silly title with Shazam! in it. But legal matters aside, I've always did like to at least see the Captain appear elsewhere. And when his character mattered in JSA, I started to get hooked. Then Day of Vengence hit, and it was all about the magic, and I just don't care about magic in the DCU. Unless Zatanna is in it (kinda just like the costume). So, with this being a 12 issue mini, I figured I'd give it a shot, and I like it.

X-Men #190: Eh.
