eBay Findings...

Wednesday, January 30

A while back I posted a poll on which Color Lantern would you be. I had googled pictures for "Blue Lantern Corps" and could only come up with this one.
Tracking it down I found it belonging to a guy who made up a lot of DC Comic shirts that he had made up and put them on eBay. The geek side in me thought was neat, however I really wouldn't see myself ever wearing any of these. Enjoy!

What I'm Reading...

Friday, January 25

Damn, I hate it when I go this long without my stash. Although "technically" I only waited three weeks, I had four weeks worth of comics waiting for me. It's all because of those wacky holidays we had a month ago, but now those are over. Here's what I enjoyed the most.

Astonishing X-Men #24: Holy crap, even though it doesn't exactly come out on a monthly basis, it's still good stuff. And after reading this installment, it'll be probably another six weeks or so for this arc's grand slam double sized finale!

And speaking of X-Men... let's talk about this mega crossover in all the rest of the X-Men titles: Messiah Complex.

I finished reading up the last four of the thirteen chapter story where everybody and their mother is looking for the first newborn mutant to appear in many years. Messiah Complex started off kind of mild, typical crossover filler. However, being able to read these four books back to back makes me glad I waited the three weeks to do so. The fights, the twists, the deaths... everything you wouldn't expect to happen, and then everything you think would.

It was a great story, don't get me wrong. But now that it's over, there's a change a' coming... and it doesn't sit well with me at all. New X-Men, probably one of my favorite X-titles and the one that got me to collect three others, is being cancelled. There will be a few months with out it and then in April we get something called Young X-Men. What's in a name eh? Well, in a recent Newsarama article, this book ain't exactly looking like a replacement book. Oh, I'll get it, but I'm on the cautious side.

To top that off, the regular X-Men title is getting a name change to X-Men: Legacy, and I'm still not too sure what's going on with that, but it sounds weird... why the change is unknown, I think it's unnecessary. And of course, I'll give it a shot.

Green Lantern Corps #20: Because of the Sinestro Corps War, I'm getting this book again. And they're doing the right thing by keeping up with the (Earth) characters and diving right back into an interesting story though the rise of power by DC baddie Mongul. The war made a few interesting new status quo's, and I'm interested to see how those play out.

The Sword #4: Nice, nice... great book. It reads like an action movie. In fact, I hope it gets made into one someday. These first four issues have been an absolute blast and I recommend to anybody to pick the series up.

Young Avengers Presents #1 Patriot: Well, it's about damn time. I get into the series late in the game, and find that Young Avengers was a 12-issue series... on hold. Has it officially been "cancelled"? Kinda hard not to start at a new #1 when it does start back up again. But anyway, Marvel was so kind as to put out this first of six issues focusing on the kids that make up Young Avengers, just to fill us in on them and reflecting on current events. Like this issue featuring Patriot and the Death of Captain America. Let's hope sales are decent enough to get the point across, the kids are alright.

After the Crash

Almost two weeks ago my computer crashed on me. Particularly the part of my hard drive that Windows ran on. I dodged the bullet and was able to recover all of my personal data; pictures, music, etc. However I had to spend some cash to get a newer drive and for somebody to reformat and load up Windows again.

I've had it back since the beginning of the week, but only now do I have it back up and running close to how I had it before. And for that I am happy.

Only The Best Nintendo Commercial, Like, EVER!

Wednesday, January 16

Yesterday I was checking Kotaku, a video game site I frequent, and found this story. In it, Ain't It Cool News writer Monki interviews Todd Holland, the director for my all time personal favorite movie The Wizard! It was like a reading a director's commentary for the film which was really neat learning stuff behind the film.

In the interview is mentioned of a screening of the film in Texas where Todd and the films stars Fred Savage and Luke Edwards are supposed to appear. Knowing full well I really wasn't going to make the trip to Texas, I checked on tickets anyway to see how much they were going for, but the two shows were all sold out.

Then I got to thinking. Ever since I missed a screening of Mallrats at a cool little theatre in Kansas City called Screenland, I make a point to check in on future shows. So I did just that, and no shit, come March... the Wizard is going to show.

HOLY SHIT BALLS.

So, I'm getting my tickets. All I have to ask is... who's coming with me? Who's coming with me?

I leave you with this somewhat maybe humorous video. Goodbye!

Also...

On a sadder note, my computer doesn't boot up like it should, and have been without my PC for two and a half days now. And I'm getting frustrated... and... I hate it.

Biggest Loser.... Again

Last year I did this weight loss competition at work dubbed the "Biggest Loser". I won this by losing 53 pounds. Unfortunately I foolishly gained a nice chunk of that back. Deciding I needed yet another shot in the arm, and joined up for it again this year.

Today was the end of the first week. I'm still trying to change my eating habits slowly, I've dropped soda pop again, and I'm back into my exercising routine. At work however it feels like I'm the guy to beat, and everybody keeps asking how much I lost and that they're "gonna win it this year". I don't have the competition spirit in me yet to care just yet. I'm sure I will though.

By the way, I only lost one pound this time around. Last year I did four. Guess I should start getting serious soon.

Draw Me In... Proof

Tuesday, January 8

Got home and checked my e-mail. Most of the time I do that, just for occasions like this one. I have another appearance to look forward to. Riley Rossmo, the artist on Image Comic's Proof sent me this pic of yours truly, which should appear in issue #7.

"this guys a chef for a group of poachers who hunt and dine on exotic animals..... I'm gonna try to sneak you in again in the last two pages."

Yeah! I'm a bad guy, "Bad monkey!"..

Whoo Hoo!

Monday, January 7

From Toyfare:

Just a few years ago it would have seemed inconceivable, but now NECA will finally be bringing us Princess Bride toys. With fan favorites Wesley and Inigo Montoya possibly shipping in the first series with more on the way and talk of a Fezzik and Fezzini 2-pack NECA has us salivating like rodents of unusual size.

My Attempt at a 2007 List... Thing

Wednesday, January 2

Forgive the random unorganized structure of the following post. I'm simply just sitting in front of the computer typing random thoughts that will pop into my head, and that's just dangerous.

My Attempt at a 2007 List... Thing

Um, Band/Artist that really clicked with me:

I would probably have to say Flyleaf. After running their cover of "Pride (In the Name of Love)" from the Family Values Tour cd, I purchased their album and find it in my CD player for extended lengths of time.

Runner Up tie: Ozzy Osbourne & 10 Years

Book I Actually Read and/or enjoyed:

Well, this is a short list. I don't read many books. In fact I think it was only these two.

The winner would be Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. After enjoying the series of Harry Potter movies, to my astonishment found that they were based on books (ha ha). So, instead of foolishly reading the series from the beginning, I said to myself, "Just read the next book after the last movie." And so that's what I did. And as I read it I found myself just plugging the actors into every role. I could probably hear the John Williams score in the background at times. I look forward to seeing this made into a film, and for the first time I'll understand all the complaints about stuff being left out by people who actually read the books.

Runner Up: Clapton - The Autobiography

Best New TV Series of 2007:

Holy crap, it's a show on the CW. Behold! Reaper! A show about a guy who turns 21 and finds out that his parents sold his soul to the Devil, and becomes the Devil's goto guy for capturing escaped souls from hell. But that's just the premise, the real show is about his life at work and his friends; namely a guy named Sock.

CURSES YOU WGA STRIKE, this show only has 13 episodes under it's belt and has now gone into hiatus. I fear the strike maybe harmful to many new shows future.

Runner Up: The Soup on E! (ha, it's not REALLY a new show, but it's new to me!)

Best Movie I Saw In a Theatre in 2007:

Now, I'm kinda horrible at remembering all the movies that came out almost a year ago. But I do know I haven't seen a movie really since all the summer blockbusters. And not all of those were winners. So, to best that I can remember, I would have to say that Grindhouse was the best theatrically seen film I saw in 2007. It was fun. It was funny. It was wrong. It was two, TWO Movies in ONE! It had a great overall feel to it, and I want another one. Too bad the box office take didn't fair too well for it. Hopefully DVD sales and word of mouth will make both "Planet Terror" & "Death Proof" into cult status films. Personally, I'm waiting for the eventual box set.

Runners-Up: Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and Pirates of the Caribbean: At Worlds End

Movie Disappointments of 2007 (Theatrically):

Tie! Shrek the Third - Spider-man 3 - Transformers!

The Shrek series keeps getting worse with each installment. Just like Mike Myers other franchise Austin Powers. I think I only really laughed when Snow White made a funny at Led Zeppelin's expense.

Other than that, it just didn't do much for me. Spider-man 3's problem was that they crammed two movie's worth of plot into one movie. Much like the 90's Batman films, when you start throwing multiple villains into the mix, let alone two love interests, holy crap, you've got one hell of a long jumbled movie. And finally Transformers. Don't get me wrong. This was close to going into the best of category, it was funny at times and the action was good. Graphics, what have you. But it's those unnecessary for the sake of a joke moments (Bumblebee "pissing" on a guy) and deviating from the original source material (where the fuck was Soundwave?) that kept me from fulling enjoying this film. However, with that said, bring on the sequel!

Runner Up: Hot Fuzz - Say what? Yeah, you go in expecting a movie like Shaun of the Dead or the show Spaced. The pacing was very slow and took away from me fully getting into it. I absolutely LOVED the end of the film, where it shined in poking fun at the genre it set out to mimic (i.e. buddy action flicks).

Best Show I Discovered After It Was Released On DVD in 2007:

Um, I've only watched a handful of episodes of this series, so this first season could easily go to crap, but for what I've seen... it's Jericho. First off, it takes place in Kansas, which I'm easily a sucker for (Smallville). And then it's got nuclear bombs exploding all over the place (I like them mushroom clouds, I think they're pretty looking). But in all seriousness, America is pretty well hit across the nation with nukes, and the people of Jericho are shown dealing with the aftermath. I'm digging it so far.

Runner Up: Scrubs (yeah, took me a while)

Best Video game of 2007:

Um... Can I say Guitar Hero II? Technically it was released in November of 2006 but I played the hell out of it in 2007. If not, then hell... Guitar Hero III! HA HA HA HA.

Runner Up: Um... Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80's? Where there any other games released this year?

Best Comics of 2007: Quick Rundown

Best New Series - Justice Society of America. Lots of characters. Good stories. A series to care about by a great creative team.
Runners Up: Booster Gold & Avengers: Initiative

Worst New Series - Countdown. And it's why I stopped purchasing it. God I hope it doesn't get good.
Runners Up: Infinity Inc. (this series better pick up REALLY fast), Teen Titans (just a dry spell, I'm sure), and Batman and the Outsiders (this should be a great book, BUT it's changing too fast for any enjoyment to be had... damn DC... get it together).

Best Mini-series - Black Adam. It's not even over yet. Without a finale, I still read this amazed by just how much I care about the world surrounding this super mass murder of nations. I think this character just generated so much sympathy when he went legit, and then watched his world crumble beneath him.
Runners Up: Sub-Mariner & New Avengers: Illuminati

Best "Event" - Sinestro Corps. A galactic adventure with cream of the crop baddies.
Runners Up - Civil War & 52

Worst "Event" - Spider-man: One More Day. I only read the first half of this it was so bad. But I hear how it ended. Is it wrong of me to judge something I didn't finish? Oh well, who's reading this anyway?
Runner Up - World War Hulk. The only thing I really dug was the X-Men plug they spun a mini-series out of it.

That's it. I pretty much ran out of stuff (for the moment) to comment upon. That's a rap... and possibly my longest post.
