Diet - Week 5

Tuesday, January 31

I must admit, I've been bad this week. But screw it, I lost two pounds. I don't know why, I thought I was just going to stay even.

Not much to mention about this week in dieting. Still no soda. I sometimes skip meals, which as I've been told is bad, but I still do it every now and again. Wasn't feeling too keen on working out a lot last week, my body has been aching, but I'm feeling a bit better, so that shouldn't be much of a problem.

Smallville - I Was Duped!

Friday, January 27

So, last night was the 100th episode of Smallville. And it wasn't bad. Infact to be honest, the last scene made me tear up, it was so beautifully done.

Here's how I was tricked. Rumor had it, that two main characters in Clark's life were going down, taking the ultimate dirt nap. And two did, but one of them didn't count. Wha?

During the first half of the show, Clark told Lana all about his secret life, taking her to the Fortress of Solitude, and proposed to her. Long story short, that same day she died in a car crash. Clark went to Jor-el and was allowed a one time opportunity to fix the mistake (kind of like in Superman: The Movie, but in a crystal form).

Clark went back in time, didn't tell Lana about being an alien, didn't ask her to marry him, and later his father Jonathan died from a heart attack.

Everyone pretty much knew Pa Kent was gonna kick the bucket, but the Lana death was way out of left field. All in all, not a bad episode, and it shakes up the status quo for the show.

Figurerama

Thursday, January 26

Started looking through my Previews book and found a few interesting new figures that are coming out. Turns out they're all from NECA, so I went looking on the internet and found a list of figures they're planning on putting out this year. There goes the ol' pocket book.

Plenty of new Pirates of the Caribbean figures

Cult Classics 4 which includes Bruce Campbell's Elvis from Bubba Ho-tep and Shaun from Shaun of the Dead!

A Jimmy Page figure from Led Zeppelin and also a Kurt Cobain figure!

You rock NECA!

Comic Book Run

Went on a comic book run on Wednesday. I had a whole month of stuff waiting for me. That's a crap load of stuff to read. I've barely even looked through them yet.

The stand out book would be Infinite Crisis #4 - Wow. The plot thickens, and a Superboy from a different Earth (if you don't know, then just trust me on this) starts going mauling c-list heroes like a hot knife through butta. It's frickin awesome to see someone in the Superman level punch through the chests of people and rip their arms off like they were paper. I mean damn.

Also this was the first time I've ever purchased a Previews book. I think, now that I'm starting to step more and more outside of the "DC box", I'd like to know what all is coming out. Both in comics and in figures.

I've got a lot of reading to do. When will I find the time to do it?

Movie Packrat

Tuesday, January 24

So, many many moons ago, I used to work at a movie theatre. Best job ever.

Over the span of years that I worked there I happen to pick up a lot of movie theatre stuff, such as these trailers pictured to the left.

After painstakingly going through several totes that'd I've moved from house to house with (note: these things ain't light), I've decided to part with them on a little thing called Ebay.

I don't think they'll go for much, but as long as somebody pays me to give them away, hey, can't say no to that.

I'm Feeling a Little Political

So yesterday the President made a stop in my fair state of Kansas. I happened to find a live feed of it on the internet (god bless the internet), and managed to listen to most of his speech while at work. Very rarely do I actually care about such things, but in this instance, I actually enjoyed it. The man [Bush] gets a lot of crap, but his statement and responses to questions were nicely executed. Plus the man has a nack for winning over the audience.

The one moment that made me sad: A student mentioned that Bush owns a ranch, so his question after pointing this out is "What do you think of Brokeback Mountain?"

Yeah, if I could ask the President any one question, that's what'd I'd ask... dumbass.

Diet - Week 4

I just weighed in at 229lbs. The same as last week. I credit this to my endulging in my diet after the four wonderful pounds I dropped last week.

I'm still off the soda pop, and I did excersie a lot over the last seven days, however, not enough to drop anymore weight. At least I didn't gain.

A better watch on my intake, and I should be losing again next week. I Hope!

Rapid Reviews

Monday, January 23

I've got a few from about two weeks ago to present.

Wedding Crashers * * *
It was alright, but not that great. Vince Vaughn and Will Ferrell are funny.

Broken Flowers * * *
I was looking for Lost in Translation 2, and it had that feel to it, however with a heavily depressing mood about it.

Red Eye * * *
I didn't have too much faith going into it with the plot that it had. I was wrong, and enjoyed it. I knew exactly where Wes Craven fit in when the female lead was being chased by a guy with a knife.

50 First Dates * *
Didn't want to watch it, it wasn't too bad, then I really didn't like the ending.

Supersize Me * * 1/2
Because of my current diet, I decided to watch this movie again. I don't mind a good documentary pic once in a while.

The Fog *
I wanted to see this in the theatres. I'm glad I missed it. This was so damned boring and uninteresting, I fell asleep.

Into the Blue * * *
I'd be lying if I said that I didn't enjoy a little bit of eye candy from this film. That being said, this wasn't that bad of a movie either.

Lord of War * * *
Stylish. I liked it. The opening of it followed the life of a bullet from the bullets perspective. Kind of like that FedEx package at the begining of Castaway. Besides that one shot, not a bad movie... plus I like Nicolas Cage.

This Job Would Be Great If It Wasn't For The Customers

Sunday, January 22

So, I guess to some people I can come off as a listener, which for most cases I guess is true, but when I'm at work, I suppose that'd be called customer service. Anyway, I tend to get these customers at K-mart who like to talk to me. Be it from Greg, the homeless man who likes to stay in the store for hours talking about how he's homeless, and OH!, what does this electronic device do?... or say this guy who I had the unfortunate chance of speaking to last night.

I knew when I saw him walking towards the department, I wasn't going to like it. He's been in the store several times before, each time just talking up a storm. He's this tall, mongoloid of a kid (High School age)... slightly retarded? First thing when he comes up to the counter is he starts asking me if people I guess he goes to school with are working at the store tonight. None that he askes are. He asks if I'm sure, I check, he asks if I have phone numbers for some of them, then goes on about how they didn't give him numbers... hmmmm... I WONDER WHY?

He goes into a conversation about renting a disc of the Sopranos and being charged some fee. Then he goes into a line of jokes, actually this one: "What's the difference between a negro in chains and a tire in chains? When you put a tire in chains, it doesn't sing." Ugh. Great... now I have to put up with this, and I try to get rid of him. Thankfully, as I noticed, the black lady right outside of my department didn't hear it. But then he asks if I liked the joke, I say no... hoping not to encourage more, but then he asks if I'd like to hear more jokes. NO. I WANT YOU TO FUCKING LEAVE! I don't say this of course, but I do laps around my department trying to ditch him, but he follows, yacking away two feet behind me every turn. I start thinking, "WHY WON'T YOU DIE?"

I ask him if he needs help. Answer: no. Great. I politely blow him off with every additional question. He wants me to call one of my associates a name (one that wasn't working and was inquiring about). I say sure, fine, whatever. Then he asks if I'm jewish, because jews are good at remembering things he says. I tell him that I'm not, only to be asked if I'm asian. What? No. Apparently they too are smart. Go figure. At this time, I'm desperately trying to find somebody to cover my break so I don't have to deal with this guy. I'm on the phone and find somebody, but have to put up with this customer for what seems like an eternity.

While my rescue arrives I leave the department through the back stockroom so he doesn't follow me, but he continues his conversation with me, although at this point I'm totally ignoring him, he starts to raise his voice so I'll hear him. DIE! .... alright.

A few minutes pass. Gone. He leaves the store, thank god.

Time passes, and I'm paid a visit by a friend. I start to tell him about my ugly visit and then he begins to tell me about a similar customer he had at the Blockbuster Video he works at. Yeah, something about a Sopranos DVD. Then it clicks. Damn. It's the same pain in the ass.

Yeah. That totally sucked. That's my rant.

Today I Feel...

Friday, January 20

...Pretty good. Today is friday, which I am thankful for, not like this week has been ruff or anything. It's kinda rainy outside, but I usually don't care much about the weather unless there's five feet of snow outside my door.

Friday's at work are dress down days, and I'm wearing a new long sleeve shirt I got for Christmas. I've gotten a few compliments on it, which again, makes me happy.

As far as the week goes, it's been fast, and I've just been taking it easy. Things are slow at K-mart and my hours there have been cut, which I feel things will bounce back, as they normally do for this time of year.

Actually, now that I've typed this all up, I'm also bored too. Hmm...

*UPDATE* I forgot to mention my neck, I think I slept on it wrong or something, I'm reminded everytime I try to look to my far right. Ouch.

Merf!

Finally! Diet - Week 3

Tuesday, January 17

Well, it finally happened. After feeling disappointed with not losing any weight last week, I weigh in today at 229lbs, which means I lost four whole fucking pounds.

Still off of the soda. I probably still eat too much (portion wise), but I do catch myself once in a while, which is ok. During the day I drink lots and lots of water. I never thought I'd type this but water is awesome. I think it curves hunger pains. It lessens your appetite I feel.

Also I've been exercising a lot more. When I don't work at my second job, I walk the treadmill on my lunch break during my day job. Just last night I started doing sit ups at home, so maybe (in the LONG run), I can work on my stomach. Not like I'm going (or planning) on being super tone, I'd just be happy to first reach my goal. Then we'll go from there.

Diet - Week 2

Tuesday, January 10

As of 10:10am of today I weighed in at 233lbs. For those keeping track, that's what I was last week, so nothing gained, nothing lost. Which I can understand for this week, so I'll except it.

I've been faithful to my no pop rule, drinking tons of water, ocassionally drinking some lemonade or some other fruit juice drink. Oh, and milk... gotta keep up on the calcium.

I've only excersied a little bit. But I'm getting more into it. So far I'm just walking on the treadmill, but I'll be stepping up a bit on doing more than just walking.

I do however think that I haven't cut back on my food consumption. Which is where I shall try to focus in more on. Eating less portions.

"It's a time machine, Napoleon. We bought it online."

Saturday, January 7

Alright, so it's neither a time machine, nor did I buy it online. But I did go down to a figure store off of Barry Road in Missouri called Limited Figures on Saturday with a friend to pick up these Napoleon Dynamite figures. They are flippin sweet.

I have officially over-run my case now of figures. Time for something bigger. Gosh!

Comic Book Run

So last Wednesday I ventured to Lawrence with the girlfriend to grab my stash o' comics. I knew that the current weeks' wasn't going to be there (because of the New Year's holiday). I wasn't too concerned. I just figured that if I went again in two weeks, I'd have three weeks worth of comic books waiting for me, and how happy would that make me!

A Comic noteworthy this week is Fallen Angel. A comic orginally published through DC Comics, now by IDW... which makes this another first in the collection. I followed this title done by one of my favorite comic writers Peter David from DC to it's new home.

I enjoyed the Wizard Magazine this month. Besides the fact that it's got tons of stuff on the new Superman movie (which at this point I'm still not building up for myself... incase it sucks), but also a lot of preview info for the coming year, which I forsee myself becoming more of a DC Comic whore.

During the trip to Lawrence, I was disappointed that one of my favorite resturants (a BBQ place called Quicks) was closed, but only on Wednesdays I found out. I've yet to find out why, but that sucks.

Ended up going to Best Buy to pick up a new PS2 game Guitar Hero (see below). Yeah, I'm happy now!

That was it for the trip. Plenty to keep me entertained for a while. I've still got comics to read. Later!

Remember that game I mentioned a week ago called Guitar Hero?

Yeah. Ok. So I bought it.

And you know what? I play it constantly and it's fun as hell!

Rapid Reveiws

Tuesday, January 3

Lets face it, I like to watch movies, television, and play video games. And I don't really get to comment on each and every one. So as the days/weeks go on, I figured an easy way to run through them is just to list stuff, and rank them (in this case, a five star rating... one is bad, five is great... etc).

So here it is, the first wave.

Pretty Persuasion * *
This movie reminded me of Election, but not as funny... or good.

King Kong (2005) * * 1/2
This three hour five minute film could have been a lot shorter without losing anything. It went on in several parts.

Gargoyles Season 2 Volume 1 * * * *
I just love this show.

Roll Bounce * * 1/2
Glad I finally got to see this. It wasn't a bad film, nice music.

American Pie Presents: Band Camp * * *
As far as sequels go, without returning characters, oh, and being strait to DVD... not a bad job.

Bad News Bears * *
Not too bad. These kids have mouths.

From Russia With Love (PS2) * * *
I've just been playing this non-stop.

Degrassi: Jay & Silent Bob Do Degrassi * 1/2
I wasn't familiar with any of the Degrassi stuff, I only went in it for the Kevin Smith stuff. Not that great, either way.

New Year Resolution - or - Diet (Week 1)

This blog has now become part of my New Year's Resolution. With it, I shall document my desire to lose some weight.

As of this morning Tuesday, January 3 2006 I weighed in at a whompin' 233 lbs. That's the most I've ever been. The last time I dieted, I quit drinking soda for about six months (from the beginning of the year to my birthday), I ate less, and made it a point to excerise regularly. Presently, as of midnight of January 1, I have already quit soda pop, and now plan to start working out.

When I tried this last, I lost about 22 lbs which brought me right under 200 lbs. The goal this time is to again, get under that 200 mark.

I hate that I've allowed myself to gain all of the original weight back, but to actually gain more than what I lost. I've become comfortable in my situation, but now I need to kick my own ass again. Besides my pants and shirts are becoming snug, and I need to nip that in the bud.

In With the New (Year)

Sunday, January 1

Had a nice New Years last night. Almost every year for several years now a friend of mine has hosted the annual party. In keeping with tradition, I went. It was a little more low key than previous years, with a few guests coming and going throughout the night, but it was also very fun.

Before midnight the whole group played Shout about TV! It's a DVD game, and with lots of people playing, it's really fun.

Flipped to Dick Clark's Rockin' New Year's Eve on ABC after midnight. I'd say the man had his run, he should just sit it out from here on out.

Afterwards, someone suggested we go to IHOP for the benefit of visiting a waitress who was working. Since everybody else was going, I went along too. That ended up being fun, until the place started getting packed. Damn that place gets busy at the early hours. Damn insomniacs.
