A Surprise Around Every Corner

Tuesday, August 29

Let me tell you about one of my favorite movies. A childhood favorite of mine called The Wizard staring child actor extrodinare Fred Savage. Most of my friends know that I have an unhealthy obsession with this film. Yeah, I like it that much.

During the age of VHS, I have owned two copies.... one extra... "just in case". When I decided DVD was my video format of choice however, The Wizard was nowhere to be seen.

I had visited sites online where people had made petitions for it to be released on DVD. I eventually purchased a bootleg copy of it off of Ebay that was either ripped from a Laserdisc or VHS copy, without any fancy extras.

But today... OH today, I stop by Wal*Mart, and as always... made way to the electronics department. I pass by several new releases including The Tick vs. Season One (thought about buying it) until I did a double take and found an official release of The Wizard on DVD.

"Holy Shit!", I thought to myself. I looked it over, it was only $10.00, no real surprise. No special features, no shocker there... but here's something I didn't even think about... it was widescreen! I've never seen this before in widescreen! Yes, even that little detail made me happy for a lack of any kind of special feature. Even trailers.

Yeah, I bought it. In case you were wondering.

So keep your powergloves to yourself pal.
