Comic Book Wednesday

Sunday, August 27

At this point in posting I've already bagged my comics, so no pic spread of my collection this week, but above is Justice League of America #1 by Ed Benes.

Birds of Prey #97... wow, 97 issues. I didn't even really realize it was that close. They better do something to make things interesting. Cause this issue wasn't.

New Avengers #23, continuing it's run of focusing on different team members during civil war. This issue focuses on Spider-Woman, and I enjoyed what's happening here.

Supergirl #9. Hey, this book is good again. Kind of a day in the life of issue, focusing on a "date" of sorts with... Captain Boomerang? Yeah, she's jailbait, and it's mentioned... that's why I don't think it was a serious date, however I enjoyed the conversations between the two. Also a little scene where Supergirl visits Batman to sell off a piece of Kryptonian technology so she can have enough money to basicly not have to ever worry about paying rent for the rest of her life. I enjoyed it because in it Bruce truely acts like an uncle to her. Kinda nice.

Astonishing X-Men #16. Well, it's official... I like this title. This issue was a really quick read, but a good one. Mostly focusing in on Kitty Pride. Had a nice little "through the wall" punch moment. Good talent on this book.

Catwoman #58: A never ending storyline. Ever since the One Year Later jump, it's been this one, damned storyline. It was good at first, now... I want it over. The one thing to come from this issue was a tease to whom the baby's daddy is.

52 #16: A crossover of characters finds Renee and the Question present at Black Adam and Isis' wedding. I know that this series is all leading up to something, but even when the "whole picture" isn't really clear at this point, I'm still loving a weekly DC series.

Blue Beetle #6: I'm sticking around for just a little bit longer. That's all I have to say.

Flash #3: Ditto.

Batman #656: Holy Ninja Man-Bats Batman! Yeah, um... that's an interesting concept. Although I never really liked the Man-Bat. I think Morrison has just been sitting on that idea for a while and finally found a place to put it in a comic. However the big shocker ending? Batman has a son. Cool. Do it. Move these characters along damn it. At least it happened first in a comic book than some summer blockbuster film.... grrr... I better not start on this one... you're a marked man Brian Singer!!!!

Wonder Woman #2.... HEY! It came out! It was better than the first issue at least. I wonder if this will start making monthly status anytime soon.

Lastly the return of the Justice League. Just so ya'll know, here's the line up: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Black Lighting, Vixen, Hawkgirl, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Arsenal, Black Canary, and Red Tornado. A nice mix n' match from previous incarnations plus... Arsenal. I don't think people really saw that one coming. But I like that he graduated to JLA status. Move characters a long.

It's kind of like Flash vs. the Riddler and Batman vs. Lex Luthor. Character interactions that are out of their environment so to speak. I enjoy those.
