Comic Book Wednesday

Thursday, July 13

Hello again.

First off let me point out two newcomers to this happy bunch. One is something I really haven't collected for probably years now... and no I don't count Superman/Batman... it's it own thing, I'm talking about just a core Superman book. I think I may get the next issue now that I've read this one, I tend to do that. It's just that I started reading comics via a Superman issue and that kept me going for a lengthy time until they did something in a story that just kinda pissed me off and I stopped reading Superman comics. I forget what year that happened but it was many years ago. Sure I've picked up an occasional issue of something here and there... like the Superman book pictured above, but nothing really made me wanna stick around long term.

The second "newbie" is X-Men. Part two of a X-Men book creative team relaunch. I decided to give this book a shot, adding up my X-books up to three. This too I think I might stick around for the arc, from there we'll see.

Green Arrow shows us just how much badass he has become, and the reintroduction of Speedy after a brief absence.

Green Lantern is getting better. Actually this issue was pretty good, and to spark the fanboy in me they killed off some onetime use Justice League space villain that I actually remembered from my younger days of collecting. The character isn't very important, just the fact that when they said his name I fucking flashed back.

Squadron Supreme: A quick read but good. Short on story, big on character. FYI, these people are all messed up and crazy.

Last, the weekly 52. You can hear the clicks of the sound of the rollercoaster as it's climbing to the top, ready to fall. This book had a decent amount of Clark Kent time in it, a character that hasn't really seen much screen time. He ends up getting fired (temporarily) and gets saved by a new (reintroduced actually) character called Supernova. Now the big question is who's under the mask of Supernova, a secret I think these four writers are going to keep us guessing for a bit longer (or I could be wrong, watch them reveal it next week).
