Concert!

Monday, August 6

Saturday night I went to go see Third Eye Blind at the Uptown Theatre. Even though the band is only ten years old, I was listening to these guys in high school, so it felt as if I was trying to connect with my "youth".
Listen to me, talking like I'm old or something. Anyway, I went with this guy (above), someone who also discovered Third Eye Blind in high school. I'm glad we went together, it'd been a while since we've done something like this.
While we were gathering in the crowd before the stage, there was a handicap lady in a motorized wheelchair trying to make her way up front. Now for a visual, this (girl/woman?) looked like a cross between Paris Hilton and Stephen Hawking. For reals. She didn't look like she had much mobility. She had an ipod, cell phone, day planner, and a dog in her lap. Yeah, a little dog too. And so this lady was kinda hitting peoples ankles trying to get up front.
After a while some dude (father/husband?) in a field and stream jacket joined her. Tried to get her closer but the people who "drove seven hours to get there" just weren't having it. And so they stayed, right next to us in the crowd, which got us worried if the crowd were to start "surfing" and "moshing" later.
The opening act was a no name band who had just recently been signed to a label I don't remember. Not like it's important. The important part is this band was named Thundercatz and was basically Black Eyed Peas lite.
They played music you would expect on a Black Eyed Peas album, and even pretty much had the same formula for a band, right down to their own little Fergie. What's funny is a few times the band would acknowledge the fact that they probably were not what the crowd would probably expect to open for a band like 3eb. We'll see how that group goes.
After the opening act, some security folk decided it would probably be best if wheelchair lady were to be moved to the side of the crowd. Yeah, good move there guys. Thanks.
Third Eye Blind rocked. They played just about every song from their greatest hits album. What more could you ask for in a concert. The crowd sang to just about every song, it was zen like. For "Never Let You Go" the guitarist brought out his (10 year old?) son out to play rhythm. It was "cutesy", at most. Overall: Great show.
