Rumor Has It...

Friday, March 31

So, word on the street is I'm moving.

Well, truth is.... I'm thinking about moving. It's not final yet, that's why I haven't really mentioned anything yet. Because it's not set in stone. But the plan is to sell my house, pack up, and relocate to a property owned by family.

I still have time and many steps to take before then. So who knows. All plans tenatively set for sometime in summer.

Re-enactment

I started out watching the Princess Bride re-enactment, and then just ended up watching them all.

This kid actually has done a good job with these scenes, mind you this kid must have a lot of time to kill. If anything, watch the Princess Bride one, then branch out. I suggest the Home Alone one (no.. really) and the Star Trek: First Contact (a little bit of over acting in at least one character here, I'll let you figure out which one).

My Quest for Kingdom Hearts II

Thursday, March 30

What a drag this has been. I actually take a day off of work to go get this game, Kingdom Hearts 2 for the Playstation 2, and I didn't even get a copy. The internet (Multiple sites) all said it's release date was on Tuesday, but after shipping, it didn't get anywhere near here until Wednesday... which is when I picked up my copy at a Gamestop, complete with stragety guide.

But alas irony stuck. Days before the game's release, my PS2, bit the dust. At least the lens that reads anything DVD, including my precious new game. So I've been using my roommates Playstation for now. But yeah, that just sucks. Something more to spend money on I guess. But for now I have happiness in a new shiny disc thingy, something I've waited for four years (and an extra day) for.

New Comics Wednesday

First one I read was New Avengers: Illuminati which was a good read. It's setting up the tensions between it's members Iron Man, Doctor Strange, Charles Xavier, Namor, Reed Richards, and Black Bolt of the Inhumans. It also expalins what lead up to the events of sending the Hulk into space. I can't believe how much I'm actually getting into the Marvel Universe. I still think DC is better, but probably more because of how much more I've already invested in it (both in actual comics and current knowledge of the DCU).

Also Marvel I picked up Uncanny X-Men, which is finishing up a story. It's alright I guess.

Green Lantern #10 picks up a year later. This one actually drops a few hints as to what happened during that missing year, as far as the nations of the DCU go. Also the introduction of.. the Sinestro Corps? Cool.

New, Blue Beetle #1. In it: the new Blue Beetle... some punk ass kid. Hey kid! Don't screw things up. I'm still upset that there's a new Firestorm.

Went to a book store next to my comic book store to pick up this cover of Infinite Crisis #5. Actually, I found out about it from a customer who was in the store at the time I was buying my comics. Thanks comic book guy.

New Media Tuesday

Today that three hour monkey movie King Kong comes out. Jeez, talk about a long ass movie. I know it's about a giant ape and has dinosaurs in it but some of the cheesey unbelieveable things that happen in this movie. Peter Jackson could have taken a nice thirty minutes out of this film and it still would have been a fairly decent movie.

Memoirs of a Geisha, your 2005 Oscar winner of best costume is out today! Whoopie.

Get your 50 Cent on, it's time for Get Rich or Die Tryin'. Again, whoopie.

People who feel that the american version of Godzilla staring Matthew Brodrick was the shit, then today is your day. That crappy ass movie gets a special edition with absolutly nothing special about it. Congratulations.

Cartoon Network presents Robot Chicken vol 1. I like this show, a nice blend of action figures, claymation, and my kind of humor. This is probably my pick for the week.

New Comic Wednesday

Thursday, March 23

So here's my weekly stash. Left to right I have a copy of Previews. Not too much to point out, although I am looking forward to the new monthly comic Gargoyles based off of Disney's 90's cartoon. Also the new #1's of Wonder Woman and the Flash.

Catwoman: She had a baby. Robin: He's been framed for the death of Batgirl. All "One Year Later" new status quos.

Squadron Supreme #1 from Marvel was good. Nothing but introductions of all twelve members and an introduction of the team. Hopefully next issue they get to beat something up.

New Avengers finally gets the ball rolling cause things have been slowing a tad. This team really has a problem getting all it's members in the same place at the same time. There has only been about five members consistantly there to deal with problems and everybody else who's an Avenger is only there when they feel like it. Especially in this issue where there's this powerful threat from space, and the teams most powerful member (The Sentry) won't even get out of bed. Yeah, that pissed me off. WTF?

And finally, two reprint issues of Infinte Crisis #3 & 4. I just love these covers. Damn you DC for taking all my money! Who am I kidding. I'm sorry I yelled at you DC. See you next week.

Diet - Week 12

Tuesday, March 21

Well crap.

As I mentioned a few weeks ago, my grandfather passed away, and that kinda threw my supposed "diet" for a loop. With my being out at my grandparents farm a lot, I managed to eat my fair share of food people had cooked for the family.

Thankfully, with only two weeks past, I've only gained two pounds. But that's not all. I've cracked. ... I drank a soda yesterday. *GASP!* Yeah. Even as I type this I hold my head down in shame. It wasn't even a Pepsi or a Mountain Dew, it was a damned Orange Fanta. But I swear to not drink another for quite sometime. As I look at the calender I see this is kind of my halfway point till my birthday. Gotta keep strong.

New Media Tuesday

Yeah! It's here, it's finally here! Justice League Season One baby! Can you tell I like this show? I want it, I crave it. I'm going to make sweet love to it. Well, not really, but buying it will certainly make me happy.

Batman Beyond Season One also is released today. It makes me happy as well. I didn't really like this show when it first started, but then the concept of Beyond grew on me. And after the direct to DVD movie, I was hooked.

Chicken Little... who cares. Derailed, I hear Jennifer Aniston has a sex scene in this, that might warrant a viewing... although you don't see anything... eh, no good reviews from this bad boy. Next: Capote. A movie that has nothing but good reviews. But what's it about? Even the movie case doesn't seem to know what it's about. Seriously, the movie case only says who's in it, what awards they've won, and what critics say about it. Although the movie is about Truman Capote, an author writing a book about a murder in Kansas, I just want to see what all the hype is about.

The Squid & the Whale, I have no clue. Something about divorce? Dreamer, kill the horse.

Does anybody remember Usher as the DJ in She's All That? The part where everybody at the prom goes into a dance number that the whole class must have spent hours perfecting, just for prom? Yeah, well, that's what I expect from In the Mix, Usher's new movie of crap.

The Ten Commandments gets a 50th anniversary edition. That movie that airs every year on Easter. You know, it really wasn't that bad of a movie.

Last, South Park Season Seven is released. I've been getting every one of these, I just love South Park. This is the season where Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez appear... if you know what episode I'm talking about.

I Hate Parades... er Happy St. Patrick's Day

Friday, March 17

So on my way home from looking for a new job, I knew there was a St. Patrick's Day parade happening downtown, that's why I thought I was being smart by detouring a few blocks. Nope. I was wrong, I was way wrong.

This years parade must have had a huge route, because I don't remember it being this big last year. I ended up taking what seemed like a seven or eight square block detour to get to my damned house. Fuck you St. Patrick's Day! Time to get drunk.

New Comic Book Wednesday

Thursday, March 16

DC Comic's One Year Later continues to shake things up in it's titles, this week for me at least in Birds of Prey and Green Arrow.

In the Teen Titans Annual, Superboy and Wondergirl got... it... on. Bumpin' uglies. The horizonal dance. You get the point. Anywho, nothing much else important in that issue. I think they're setting up Superboy to die. Which I personally would hate cause I like the kid, but he hasn't had this much character development in forever, they're trying to make us care about him, and now he has sex... it adds up. I hope I'm wrong though.

Last we have the Infinite Crisis Secret Files issue, which tells us a lot, but nothing that we care about. Yep. Just another way to get your money. And this issue sold out before reaching the stands, so it'll go back to print. Along with Aquaman: Sword of Atlantis, JSA, and Superman from a few weeks ago. "OYL" is doing well I guess.

I missed out on The Walking Dead this week due to my local store not ordering enough copies, but because they're new at this, I'll let it slide for now. Maybe just a slap on the wrists. I did however get to read a copy of it, writer Robert Kirkman sure knows how to keep things interesting.

Rapid Reviews

Weatherman * * *
I like Nic Cage, and this was close to another film of his called Matchstick Men (which I recommend watching). Weatherman wasn't bad, but not great either.

Walk the Line * * * * *
I felt this was 2005's best movie of the year, at least of the ones I saw. Great movie about Johnny Cash.

Just Like Heaven * * 1/2
For all intent and purposes, this is a chick flick. However, funny at times, and watchable.

Ultimate Avengers * * 1/2
Something that isn't too true to it's comic book roots, however multi-media spun from comic books is often encouraged, and this little offering wasn't too bad. Again, not great. Best scene: Thor vs. Hulk.

Just Friends * *
Ryan Reynolds
is funny, I'll give him that. And Anna Faris is a great ditz. This movie is probably worth seeing once, just for entertainment value. Other than that... eh.

Unforgiven * * 1/2
Around Oscar time, I felt the need to see a few past winners that I may not have seen in the past, enter: Unforgiven. I'm not sure I would have given it best picture, the story and plot weren't really there for a best picture, but the acting was pretty good. I'm not one really for westerns, but this film wasn't bad.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets * * * 1/2
Alright, the next three are mostly a result from working in the electronics department. In preparing for the release of Harry Potter 4, I ended up watching most of the series to date, excluding Sorcerer's Stone, cause I didn't like that film, and I can't really watch the kids anymore, as kids. I much prefer their teenage counterparts. With that out of the way, I really liked Chamber of Secrets the best so far, minus the annoying CGI elf Dobby. Stupid CGI characters.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban * * 1/2
This installment without Chris Columbus directing, darkened the series. Not a bad film, although lacking in exciting moments, a decent story.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire * * * 1/2
Ah, back to glory. Important revelations, plus someone dies! I actually get goosebumps when I see that part. There's just something about these movies, I can't help it.

New Media Tuesday

Tuesday, March 14

A History of Violence! Something based off a comic book! It's a drama of a small town husband and father (Viggo Mortensen) whose small town act of heroism, saving the patrons of his diner by killing a pair of criminal psychopaths and reveals his own repressed past as a brutal criminal. Apparently it's one of the critics top choices so that means I must see it. I'm kidding about that last part, but I still want to watch it anyway.

Good Night, and Good Luck: Nominated for six Oscars, including Best Picture. That's the name of the whole movie, right there. Not just Good Night, and Good Luck. Anyway, I'm curious about this one, filmed in black and white about 1950's newscaster Edward R. Murrow and something political or something. Worth a shot.

The Year of the Yao? A documentary or something? I try to give documentaries a shot, but on this one, who cares?

A lot of television stuff was released on DVD too. The Simple Life 3, thank god that's over with. I Dream of Jeannie, I didn't really watch this (re-runs), but I won't give it crap. I'm sure it was a fine show. MacGyver(s5), Colombo (s4), and Murder She Wrote(s3) wraps up this little installment.

Chuck Norris Can Slam a Revolving Door.

Friday, March 10

Happy Birthday to Chuck Norris. I can't believe how the whole Chuck Norris thing has blown up. And most of these jokes are pretty funny. Here's a list of his personal favorites, and a link to the Chuck Norris fact page. Enjoy.

  • When the Boogeyman goes to sleep every night, he checks his closet for Chuck Norris.
  • Chuck Norris doesn't read books. He stares them down until he gets the information he wants.
  • There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
  • Outer space exists because it's afraid to be on the same planet with Chuck Norris.
  • Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits.
  • Chuck Norris is currently suing NBC, claiming Law and Order are trademarked names for his left and right legs.
  • Chuck Norris is the reason why Waldo is hiding.
  • Chuck Norris counted to infinity - twice.
  • There is no chin behind Chuck Norris’ beard. There is only another fist.
  • When Chuck Norris does a pushup, he isn’t lifting himself up, he’s pushing the Earth down.
  • Chuck Norris is so fast, he can run around the world and punch himself in the back of the head.
  • Chuck Norris’ hand is the only hand that can beat a Royal Flush.
  • There is no such thing as global warming. Chuck Norris was cold, so he turned the sun up.
  • Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water AND make it drink.
  • Chuck Norris doesn’t wear a watch, HE decides what time it is.
  • Chuck Norris gave Mona Lisa that smile.
  • Chuck Norris can slam a revolving door.
  • Chuck Norris does not get frostbite. Chuck Norris bites frost.
  • Contrary to popular belief, America is not a democracy, it is a Chucktatorship.

Comic Book Run?

Wednesday, March 8

Um. You see, it's like this... this month has five Wednesdays in it, and in doing so, major publishers like DC Comics can kind of throw in this "skip week" where they play around with their monthly schedule. So not much came out today from them, and the only thing I got, the one issue: Teen Titans #33.

And guess what, next week: Teen Titans #34. Odd how that works out. Eh.

Diet - Week 10

Tuesday, March 7

Yeah for me! I lost two pounds. It's going to take forever for me to loose my target weight. But two pounds... yeah!

I am changing my diet a bit. At least for this week I've been eating a lot of fruit. I've enjoyed drinking Crystal Light which only has 5 calories per serving. Still not drinking any soda. Exercise comes and goes, one or two times a week, which I could make it two or three times if I really wanted to. Other than that, I'll just keep on, keeping on.

Diet recap:

January 1st 2006: 233lbs
March 7th 2006: 224lbs

Goal: =>200lbs (and no soda till at least my birthday 5-31)

New Media Tuesday

So, I guess the real biggie release here is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Yes, I enjoy the series (except for the first movie, they're just too kiddie for me). I've already picked up my copy and will probably watch it a million times while at work. So I hope I don't get too burnout on this too fast.

Another movie which I want to see is Jarhead. I actually know very little about this movie, but just from what I've seen in the trailers for it, I'll give it a shot. If I remember correctly it's done by the American Beauty guy, and I liked that movie a lot.

I've actually just recently watched Just Friends which comes out today. It isn't anything special, but it is worth a watch cause it will make you laugh. Possibly a good date movie.

I don't know much about Free Enterprise staring William Shatner, but with this new special edition release, I think I'm going to rent it now. Just to watch it. I mean, how bad could it be if they released a special edition, right?

That's about it for right now. Looks like a few pics. Something new to watch. Later.

The 78th Oscars... Thoughts

Well, unfortunately I was working at K-mart last night, so I didn't get to watch everything, especially at the end of the show. I did catch the begining and a few of the major awards, including Batman winning best supporting actor.

I enjoyed Jon Stewart's hosting. I felt he did a fine job.

Below are links to parts I felt were nice of the Oscars. The Opening of the show, and a nice little nod to cowboys... Brokeback Mountain style. (Don't worry, it's funny.)

Comics!

Thursday, March 2

I don't think I can call these posts "Comic Book Run" anymore, cause it's more like "comic book stop on the way home from work" now. But that doesn't look very good as a title. Not catchy enough for my tastes. I'll take suggestions if anybody has any.

Look! Comic books! First off, Uncanny X-Men, which isn't too thrilling but I'm reading it anyway. I don't know why I'm dipping into the Marvel Universe anyway, lord knows DC is going to be taking all my money this year anyway.

Infinite Crisis is heating up. Only two more issues left, I hope they don't fuck things up. Batman Annual explained Jason Todd's return to the land of the living... finally. I liked it, it was justified, actually having him be alive a year before the Jim Lee "Hush" run on Batman. So it wasn't just like, "Oh, and here's Jason Todd, he's not really dead after all!"

Everything else DC is now a Year Later. JSA was boring and dull. Sad. I'm a big Aquaman fan, and I'm not sure where this is going now that they've shaken up the staus quo, but I'm not digging it. It's almost like when this volume started off with Aquaman getting a magical water hand. That was a horrible year, but I stuck with it. I hope this story arc gets better. Fast.

Last we have Outsiders which the first half of the issue was totally different from anything previous in this title. It almost had no heroes in it whatsoever. This too was a "OYL" story, so a lot has yet to be revealed. The only interesting part was it turns out a Flash villain, Captain Boomerang, is now on the team. Curious.

The Store - Now Open

Yesterday Limited Figures and Comics opened it's doors to the public... and I was there. It was quite exciting to see Leavenworth open it's first comic book store in something like eight years.

Along with the opening came my gift to the store; publicity.

The night before I called up the local paper to see if they'd just put in something like a picture of the store on it's first day. Instead I guess they're putting in a whole article. That's my understanding.
*UPDATE* I checked in the paper and didn't see anything.
I also guess it'll be in the paper today, so if you're local and care about LF&C, pick it up!
