Bizarro Smallville

Wednesday, March 28

So, current rumor has it that this season of Smallville ends with a Clark/Bizzaro Clark battle.

Eh.

They've done just as much as they can I think without actually turning him into Superman.
BTW: The picture on the right isn't anything official, I just photoshopped something "Bizzaro" from Tom Welling.

Biggest Loser - Update

A few things to report.

Last week I actually gained two pounds. It was a stressful week with my Jeep breaking down and needing to come up with the funds to pay for it. Plus I just over indulged. So that sucked.

This week however, after getting my mind back in the game, I lost three pounds! I made up for the two last week, plus one! So I'm back on track again.

Yesterday I was visiting my friend at the Plaza. We were in GNC looking at product when who should walk by the glass window and point me out but the second place "Loser". She just gave me the "shame on you" move with her hands. Ha!

The State of the Jeep Report

I mentioned my Jeep troubles last week, and how it was in the shop and it was gonna cost me some monies to get it repaired. Well, on Monday I went to finally pick it up, paid for it, and go collect my Jeep. First off, the emergency brake wasn't set and the door wasn't locked. But then when I tried to leave, I couldn't shift.

I had to leave it till after I got off work then. It was some air pocket, nothing major to fix, but still annoying. Not as annoying as this though. After picking it up I returned to work to exercise. I went to my vehicle only to have my driver's side door not work. Not cool for only having my Jeep back for little over an hour. My room mate fixed it for me no sweet the following day. The problem wasn't as bad as I had thought.

While I was Walking...

During my lunch breaks at work I walk a treadmill and watch DVD's, 30 minutes at a time. In this column I review them and finish things off with my thoughts with whether or not I recommend the movie.

I'm still trying to catch up. Next on my list was Dazed and Confused.
I only watched this movie because it seemed like an important and popular film. Other than that... I didn't want to see it. But I'm glad I did.
Now, as I watch these movies in short 30-minute intervals, I wasn't thrilled at all for how this movie started. It was rather dull and mean, as the High School students were looking to paddle the freshmen. I guess such an activity was popular in the 70's?
But as I went back to the film, finishing it out, I really enjoyed it. A lot famous faces make appearances in this film. A spoof from Family Guy originally done by Matthew McConaughey made more sense to me. Ben Affleck was the biggest dick I've ever seen him play since Mallrats.
Recommended!
Next I watched Toy Soldiers, a film I had seen long ago when it first came out on VHS over 16 years ago. Damn.
Anywho, it's about a boys prep school that gets taken over by terrorists. Your basic Die Hard knock. And it still carries a bit of the 80's feel into it. It's enjoyable. You've got Louis Gossett, Jr. taking names and kicking ass. Students in the form of Sean Astin and Wil Wheaton, whom I've not really seen outside of Lord of the Rings and Star Trek: TNG, respectively.
Like I said, it's enjoyable. Mildly recommended.

Go Figure...

Here's my idea for a "cult classic" type wave of figures. The movies and characters who've proven themselves on the silver screen (or at least in pop culture).

First off, Marty McFly from Back to the Future. The picture above is exactly how I see the figure, including at least a side of the Delorean with his foot in it. Kind of like a recent Sheriff Hoyt figure that included him leaning on the rear end of a van.
Second, Willy Wonka. More specificly, Gene Wilder's Wonka. Johnny Depp got a figure with his take on the character. Why not the guy who put him on the map?

Axel Foley. I just want a figure of this. Exactly as it's pictured above, Murphy with gun in hand leaning against a Beverly Hills sign.

Last up: The Karate Kid. Now, I was just going for Daniel LaRusso, possibly doing the "Crane" stance from the end of the movie, but then I got to thinking why not Mr. Miyagi too?
Hey! Make these figures someone!

The Kids Are Alright

Monday, March 26

In a previous posting I had made, rumor had it that maybe one or two of the Harry Potter kids might not return to the series after this summer. That rumor has been put to rest.

Apparently all three of the kiddies have signed on throughout the entire Harry Potter series.

Yeah!!!

While I Was Walking...

Monday, March 19

During my lunch breaks at work I walk a treadmill and watch DVD's, 30 minutes at a time. In this column I review them and finish things off with my thoughts with whether or not I recommend the movie.

Alright, I'm gonna do two of these for a while. If I don't, then I'll never actually catch up to where I am now on my list. Still going in order: Drop Dead Sexy.

I watched this just cause a friend of mine did. It stars Jason Lee and I like Jason Lee. Figured why not. Wow, what a great way to kill time.

Here's the official plot outline: "When their money scam runs aground, a group of would-be thieves turn to kidnapping in an attempt to blackmail their target."

The film has a dark sense of humor, giving a few laughs, if you can get past the weirdness of the plot content. There's a few times when you wonder if it'll cross the line. The film involves "mob" like situations, meaning, you've probably seen this plot once before somewhere either on TV or the movies. Certainly a lot of twists... but you see them coming.

I thought I'd see a really weird Crispin Glover, cause let's face it... that's where he lives now. Dispite the fact his character IS weird, his performance was rather "calmed down" that I was expecting. Both he and Jason Lee did good jobs with thier characters.

HOWEVER, I can not say that'd I'd recommend this film. I only finished it, just to have finished it.

Not recommended.

Next up is Underworld. I've never seen this nor it's sequel and once more, because somebody else liked it, I decided to give it a shot.

I enjoyed it. It probably would have been better if it wasn't trying so hard to be a summer blockbuster and trying to imatate the Matrix films. Although, to be fair, a lot of movies have tried to be like the Matrix films after the first one was released.

However, the plot: Selene (Beckinsale), a beautiful vampire warrior, is entrenched in a war between the vampire and werewolf races. Although she is aligned with the vampires, she falls in love with Michael (Speedman), a werewolf who longs for the war to end.

And boy, does she screw herself in the end. I had never really wanted to watch Underworld before, but after seeing the possition that Kate Beckinsale put herself in at the end, I'm going to give the second one a chance now.

Mildly Recommended.

Holy Hell in a Handbasket Harry Potter!

What's wrong with today's young Hollywood starlets?

Emma Watson is out of the final two Harry Potter films, it has transpired.

Watson apparently wants to do other roles, growing tired of only being recognised as 'that girl from Harry Potter' and has turned down a reported £2 million-per-movie offer to stay on. Rupert Grint (DRIVING LESSONS) mentions that despite having made 5 films together, neither he or Daniel Radcliffe (THAT PLAY WHERE HE IS NAKED WITH HORSES) speak to Watson anymore.

What the hell?

The Slow Times

Sunday, March 18

Hey,

Sorry I haven't posted anything here recently. I've been a bit bummed. You see, my Jeep recently broke down... again... and this time it's gonna cost a pretty penny to fix. So not only am I without a vehicle right now, it's also costing me more than I really have to pay for it too.

So that sucks.

Maybe I'll post some stuff this week. OH, and hope everybody had a good St. Patrick's Day.

While I Was Walking...

Thursday, March 8

During my lunch breaks at work I walk a treadmill and watch DVD's, 30 minutes at a time. In this column I review them and finish things off with my thoughts with whether or not I recommend the movie.

Alright, still going in order I watched the documentary pic Wordplay, a film about crosswords.

Yes. I watched this.

Before I get into this, here's the IMDB's official plot outline:

"An in-depth look at The New York Times' long-time crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz and his loyal fan base. "

I rented this based off of the preview, and as we all know by now, previews spice things up however they can to get you to see the movie. I thought the trailer was alright and interesting to give it a shot, after all... I do enjoy a good documentary every once and a while, so long as things don't get too political (I'm looking at you Michael Moore!).

So, this wasn't bad. Not too "gripping", but had a lot of famous faces pop in for their two cents, and what they had to say was actually relevent. How I see this film is I would have pictured me watching it more on say... the History Channel or some such on TV, but would have rolled my eyes in shame if I went to the theatre to watch.

Mildly recommended... (wait for it on TV... but don't like... TiVo it or anything).

Go Figure... James Bond

There are plenty of Bond Figures out there, but they mostly are made up of the 12' doll variety. I just want one of each actor who has portrayed the 007 agent (well, not so much George Lazenby or even Timothy Dalton perhaps) to appear in a 7' plastic action figure.

Can't somebody make this happen? Have they even tried?

Biggest Loser!

Wednesday, March 7

Yesterday I meet my own personal goal: I dipped below 200lbs.

Mind you, this was my own weight loss goal before I joined up in this "Biggest Loser" thing at work. And this goal was to be meet sometime before May. So I'm thrilled to have done this so early in the game. Now, as far as the competition is concerned, I think I'm still in the lead for that, which also makes me happy. And motivated.

And for those of you keeping track... that's 27lbs for the year. *smiles*

The Candy Man

Tuesday, March 6

Last night I was watching my local Fox News station and saw a report about the Dickinson Plaza 6 theatres, a former employre. The report was about a 27 year old Atchison man who was trying to steal candy from the Dickinson. Saturday night after a last round movie he told his wife he was going to the restroom while she went to the car. He went behind the concessions area and took “35 lbs” of candy. He was approached and ran. He was tackled by two civilians until apprehended by police. Then some jokes about candy were made by the anchors.

After viewing this I called my friend who is a security guard there about it and here is what he had to report.

Apparently this guy dumped a 35lb of popcorn kernels into the sink to use as a bag. He filled it with candy and went into the box office. The man was printing “test” tickets… believing them to be real tickets I guess. He jumped up on the counter, hit his head on the low ceiling, impaled himself on the gate, and flipped over into the Plaza commons. He then ran outside to the just arriving police.

Ha. What an idiot.

To make matters worse he hit a female cop in the jaw. He also apparently was kicking at the windows inside the squad car he was taken away in.

That’s all I know. Make sure to give Ron a hard time about this in some fashion, he was working that night. Peace!

Spider-man 3 Footage

For those of you watching Heroes last night, you got to see a worthless one minute clip of Spider-man 3. At the end of said clip you were told an additional seven minutes of Spider goodness could be seen for the next 24 hours on NBC.com.

What I saw made me blew me away. I WANT TO SEE IT TODAY!

There were a few heart felt moments with Mary Jane and Aunt May, and then of course the fight scene in which Harry tries to imprint Peter's face into every building in New York. Yeah, I'd say that was the scene which caught my attention the most. Pretty sure. Hopefully that stuff gets onto YouTube eventually. Corporate folk are cracking down on that site. It's still going to be up today by 9pm eastern time if you haven't seen it yet!!!!

While I Was Walking...

Monday, March 5

Alright, time for yet another new line of postings... Introducing While I Was Walking...

As part of my "diet" I generally take advantage of both my lunch break and the weight room at work to walk a good two miles or so a day, generally wasting about 30 minutes time. At the start of this I took with me my PSP and either played a game or listened to music. But then one day I brought in my DVD player and presto! I watch a movie... 30 minutes at a time!

I've been doing this a few weeks now, so I have a bit of a backlog to run through, but I'll keep'em in order. And to finish things off I'll leave my thoughts with whether or not I recommend the movie.

So far I'm watching movies I haven't seen before, but on my first time out I watched Hollywoodland. I've already reviewed this film when I saw it in the theatre, I'll just leave it at this: I love Superman and I love old Hollywood. Other than that, I'm not the biggest Adrien Brody fan out there, so I could have done without his character, thus making the movie about 30 minutes altogether. And much like the critics I enjoyed Ben Affleck's take on George Reeves. It's a shame he wasn't nominated for an Oscar.

I promise these things will be a bit more indepth in the future.

Recommended.
