Go Figure...

Monday, November 27

Now here's something different... a late night show personallity: Conan O'Brien.

Can I tell you something? I'm a big Conan O'Brien fan. Yeah, it's true. So naturally I'd like a figure of him. Something of him standing doing his monolouge or my personal fav; sitting behind his desk.

I don't think this figure will be coming anytime soon, however if they did it could always be in a set of late night show hosts; Ed Sullivan, Johnny Carson, and David Letterman.

Why the hell not.

Thanksgiving Day... And Then Some

I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving holiday weekend.

I didn't. I'm rather bitter about it all actually.

On Thursday I had to work from 111:00am to 5:00pm, which is both good and bad: Good because I didn't have to put up with the mob outside the building trying to get the good deals. Bad because it's right around lunch time and I get off around dinner time. Which thankfully I did manage to get a plate of "real food" at my girlfriends family dinner, although I had to heat it up.

The real BIGGIE on that day was all about how I pissed off a whole three generations of one family over some real stupid shit. I appologize, for the following requires some setup.

A family of three, a grandmother, daughter, and a grandchild... point out to me that they'd like "that game" in reference to the video game displays outside of electronics they were pointing at. I go to investigate "which game" was being played on the PS2 (the console it looked closest to what was being pointed out) and that's when they said they wanted the systems. They said they, "want a Gamecube and a Playstation 2".

I look in the department and in my stockroom to no prevail: we were out. I tell them this and they go to the front to get a raincheck... which did them no good anyway since they were not on sale. It should have ended there.

Some 15 minutes pass and I help a customer with a game called Dance Dance Revolution. You may have heard of it. This was one that came with a dance pad so it was bigger than your average game box. Anywho, that old woman from above just so happened to be in the department (why I don't know) and confronts me about it saying, "Why did you tell us you were out of this? That's not fair to sell it to someone else".

At first I brush it off like she doesn't know anybetter and tell her it's a game, not a system.

"But it says Playstation 2".

"Yes, but it's a game for the PS2".

Some more of this conversation goes on and she leaves. She comes back however with one of the managers and makes more of a case of it in electronics. I'm kinda smiling over all of this, ocassionally trying to play it straight and even apologize to her for the "confussion". Then the manager takes her name and a list of things that she wanted: A PS2, the DDR Game, and an X-Box....

X-Box? Where'd that come from? And what about the Gamecube?

Obviously she didn't know what the hell she wanted.

Then before she leaves she comments, "And I don't like your smirk either!" Well... that part I guess you can get me on. Think it's over? Not yet.

Another 15 minutes pass and the daughter comes my way just yelling up a storm mentioning things like "getting a 1-800 number", dropping the F-bomb at least twice and saying, "You said you didn't like my daughter's smile." Which would be the granddaughter... and if memory serves I didn't even talk to the little girl. This wasn't a long conversation mind you, it was more like a walk by verbal lashing. I made the point of mentioning to her as she was walking away "that a number to call could be found at the service desk."

Just trying to be helpful.

The ending to this is that two of the managers on duty were confronted by these lovely women and to my delight, both of them said that's just something I wouldn't do and am very nice to customers... etc. Which thrilled me to no end that I was defended by them. Still, the overall situation pissed me off.

Happy Turkey Day!

OMG OMG OMG!

Mind you... this is all subject to change: However... I checked the Diamond listing today to see what was coming out this week and check to what MAY be shipping next week... when I saw this:

INVINCIBLE #37

And I was all like, "Really? So soon? Hell's yeah!"

Two Invincible comics in one month? Plus a Walking Dead? Then I scroll down further... is that Gargoyles #2? Although at this time it's not confirmed, but there's a slim chance I'm drawn into Gargoyles #2 (or possibly #3)... so I'm crossing my fingers.

Eight more days! Yoot!

George Takei Joins “Heroes” as Hiro’s Father

Monday, November 20

Got this from a "Heroes" site... enjoy!

Cheer up, “Star Trek” fans! Your show may be off the air, and they may be attempting to butcher your universe with a “Star Trek” movie prequel, but at least you can look forward to seeing Mister Sulu (aka George Takei) return to the small screen in January 2007 as, not surprisingly, the father of our very own Hiro Nakamura! The news comes courtesy of the SyFy Portal, who quotes Maki Oka as saying about the news, “This is absolutely brilliant… Hiro’s father is this big honcho who shows up in America with his bodyguard. He has this whole elaborate scheme to kidnap his son and take him back to Japan.”

Go Figure...

Probably THE best comedy trio ever. I can't even think of any others off hand. They will forever be imortalized by their slap stick, black and white comedy shorts, and I can't think of any reason why these three shouldn't be molded into plastic for my sheer enjoyment.

Gimmie Moe, Larry, and Curly: The Three Stooges.

Screw Curly Joe and Shimp, and make them black and white like the Sin City figures are. C'om'on!

Put The Show On Pause Please

I have DVR now. Kinda cool. I get to pause live television or even record it. It's not like I really needed it, but was hard to pass up. Now it's more of a convenience and I'll take it. Plus I get all the HBO's and Cinemax's for a year free!

Now if I could only get G4 Network I'd be set.

Go Figure...

"No time for love Dr. Jones."

There's no love for Dr. Jones apparently. Indiana Jones is quite the film pop culture icon and should be cast in plastic for display. Really. Why should all the horror and sci-fi film characters get all the attention?

I've got a nice Han Solo with a killer likeness to Harrison Ford. Let's give this archeologist an action figure. Perhaps from Raiders of the Lost Ark where he pulls out his pistol... or the action sequence at the begining with the stone? What do you think?

Heroes - "Seven Minutes to Midnight": Thoughts

"Seven Minutes to Midnight"? Who names these things?

Anyway... another interesting chapter in Heroes. I say interesting because there's been more to the reveal to what the hell is going on, but otherwise a slow episode. Kinda weird to have it both ways but there you have it.

Episode 8 does, at last, confirm Mr. Bennett’s status — not as a villain, but rather as a sort of anti-hero. He’s a man who is doing whatever it takes (be it cooking up heroin for a clairvoyant junkie or probing a telepath’s head) to save his daughter, given the knowledge and wealth he possesses. It remains to be seen, however, whether saving New York (presumably from Ted, the radioactive man) is a priority, or merely a convenient byproduct of his daughter, Claire’s, salvation.

Hiro and Ando stop in at a diner in Texas, only to meet Charlie, a waitress with a hard drive for a brain. Sylar waits patiently to make his move and, when Hiro and Ando’s attention is diverted, gives poor Charlie the head slice treatment. Hiro journeys into the past to save Charlie, so no worries about her pretty head, but who is Sylar and why is he killing heroes?

Last, but certainly worth mention, are the psychedelic astral trips Mohinder Suresh has been taking back home in India. They provide some insight into both his father’s death and his family history. Is this Mohinder’s ability, finally revealed? Or is there something else at play? His mother confirms the life and death of a little sister Mohinder never new about, who was a very “special” little girl…

Smallville - "Rage": Thoughts

I have to keep telling myself that Smallville ISN'T supposed to be like the comic books and is it's own little world. Sometimes it's hard to over look certain details. Every season there seems to be at least one clear objective that over twenty or so episodes gets solved (maybe) in the finale. This early in the season we've set up a few things. One: introduced Oliver Queen a.k.a. Green Arrow. And a few episodes, including last weeks could have just been called the Green Arrow show.

In "Rage" Ollie takes a drug that heals him from injury to aid him in his fight against crime. The drug however puts him on edge, which makes him look bad in front of Lois. He even almost kills Lex, this same drug however brings him back to life.

But here's the big reveal for this episode. Something's wrong with Lana, she's sick, goes to the doctor, guess what? She's preggers. With Lex's baby. Crazy. Let's see how this plays out over the season.

Draw Me In Face Lift

Wednesday, November 15

Holy crap... I think I'm finally learning.

I've had this wonderful tool called Dreamweaver to help with any html stuff, and for the most part I've used it for helping with cutting and pasting of code. But with a little help from someone at work, I think I've just "taken my first step into a larger world".

Anywho, with an old unused template Jeff Stewart made for me way back in 2002 (ish?) I've managed to make a few changes AND additions. I'm proud to say that my little throw together site now has a bit of flair and professionalism to it now.

Hopefully it'll help get a few more hits my way.

Check it out! Draw Me In!

Comic Book Run

Went last wednesday... so this is a week late. Got two weeks worth to run through, plus an advance copy here or there. To be honest there's still one or two I haven't finished yet. Just haven't sat down to read anything lately.

Uncanny X-Men #480: Part 6 of this 12 part "Shi'ar Empire" storyline. Not bad so far considering the team is made up of all of these X-Men I really don't know... and Nightcrawler. I'm just absorbing all of this "X" stuff.

Invincible #36: This is an advance copy, and that puts #37 coming out sometime hopefully in December. Can't wait. This issue shows Mark back at college helping out his friends. It also features a two page splash that's gonna be an Invincible poster later. I might have to get that.

New X-Men #32: Deals with characters and deaths of people from before I jumped on to this title, so overall it's kind of new and confusing. I'll get by though, still a good book.

Outsiders #42: So far "One Year Later" has failed on this title. I'm barely keeping on. All of the storylines have been lacking thus far. The only thing I've enjoyed is seeing the addition of Boomerang to the team.

X-Men: Phoenix Warsong #3: At first I probably could have lived without picking up this mini-series, but now that I've invested to the halfway mark, I have to see how this ends. I know that the definition to the Phoenix is to "rise from the ashes", but I really wish they'd just let it die.

Martian Manhunter #4: The storyline plots I didn't care for originally are becoming interesting, the writing... getting better... the art, not bad. I really love this character, so I'm glad he has this limited series. Hopefully this will spin off well for him.

Ninja Scroll #2: I'm glad this picks off from the movie instead of the TV show, cause then I might be lost otherwise. There's not much to read in this action packed book, so it goes fast. I love the art, the charcters look right on! Don't know much about any kind of story going on, it's a little dry, otherwise it's still a fun read.

Batman #658: For something as important as "Look, Batman has a Son!", this came off as just another stunt. It's already ended before it's began.

Superman #657: Much like his stint on Aquaman, Kurt Busiek is loosing me fast on this book. I tried to give Superman another shot. They even fooled me into buying Action Comics too. And that one I KNOW is a stunt.

Gen13 #2: Let's face it, I'm buying this because there's a hot chick in it. Truthfully it's still in it's trial period.

Green Lantern #14: Still not the biggest Hal fan. This issue tells us about time spent captured after Hal and a few air force buddies get shot down, and his regret not having his ring on at the time... which is retarted by the way. This issue makes Jordan a wanted man... eh.

Teen Titans #40: I love the new Miss Martian. I think it's just an extention of my fondness for the Manhunter, however for this it works. By issues end we see another dead character come back to life. I've never read a comic with this resurrected Titan before, so I just don't care about him yet. We'll see.

Justice League of America #3: Didn't see it coming. It's getting better though, each issue better than the last. The big three are still looking through the photo album though.

52 #26: Not a very interesting week. Steel and Natasha have words. More on the Black Adam family, spotlighting on the new kid Osiris.

52 #27: By contrast this was a great week. Ralph takes on the powers of the Spectre to exact revenge on the killer of his wife. Plus the death of a powerful character with a moment that makes you say damn.

Squadron Supreme #7: This was the best comic of the bunch. The violence of this fight was awesome. Innocent people blown to bits, human sheilds... literally. Hyperion threw down hardcore and I liked it. And when all seemed lost, the three who originally took down this guy shows up and collectively tells him they're gonna "kick your sorry white ass.... punk." Nice.

Green Arrow #68: A nice finish to the "what I've been doing for the past year" story. Some of the stuff is a little far fetched... especially for a guy with a sword and bow. He's not Superman. But I'm looking forward to the next arc with Batman.

Go Figure...

A new feature post! I love these, let's see how long I can keep this one going.

Anyway, I'm gonna run through my wish list of licenses or specific characters that I wish were made into figures so that I can spend fat cash on them and add them to my collection.

First off, is there a Ripley figure? Sure, Kenner did some stuff "back in the day" but those are kids stuff. I want one next to my McFarlane Alien thats holding a combination grenade lancher/flamethrower that clearly wants to kick its' ass. I don't even care if you throw in that kid Newt. But it's gotta be from Aliens, the best of the bunch.

They even did a Hicks figure, somethings gotta be holding up the likeness rights of Sigourney Weaver or something. If they make a Call figure off of Winona Ryder, then I'll give up all hope.

Spider-Man 3 Stuff

Yeah, so last week (or sometime like that) the new trailer for Spider-man 3 hit the media circuts. But in addition, some "hush hush" footage of Venom hit YouTube.com (it has since been removed). Pictured above are two screen captures of it though. Looks promising.

Billy Jean Cover

Yeah. I do enjoy a good cover song. Especially when it's an artist crossing genres. Disturbed covering Genesis' "Land of Confusion"... Johnny Cash doing Nine Inch Nails "Hurt"... but this one kinda threw me off when I first heard it.

I was listening to the radio on my way back to work and the DJ said it was an interesting new song from Chris Cornell... formerly of Soundgarden... presently of Audioslave.

The radio personallity said it was a cover, and to try to guess it. All it took were the first two lines and I was kinda shocked.

The song itself isn't great per se but I do enjoy how it's different from the original. Good or bad it deserves a listen. Click here to hear.

Cover Artist: Greg Smallwood

Day of the Dead: Rising of Bub #1

A comic came out last week with a cover that was done by one of my good friends, Greg Smallwood. It was a lesser known publisher that put out the comic, so obtaining a copy was a bit problematic. Infact he doesn't even have a copy. Today I had to find one on ebay.

Despite the controversy that went into making this cover possible, I still congratulate him on getting one hell of a nice piece published.

Went to a comic book convention on Saturday hosted by MO-KAN Comics Conspiracy. Never really heard about this but it is nice to see with the absence of Planet Comic-Con for this year.

I went with four of my comic book buds to god knows where off the side of the highway. I managed to complete a series, get all but one issue for another, and started in on Image Comics "Girls".

I pimped out my campaign Draw Me In to a few people, got a few pictures with a handful of pros, and managed to get a few autographs and sketches too!

Comic Book Run

Figured that I should hurry up and get this done. Real quickies here.

52 #24 & #25: A brief "new" JLA made up of 4th and 5th stringers. Doesn't go to well. Also, Intergang starts making more of a pressence. Eh.

Birds of Prey #99: Story seems to be lagging. Black Canary leaves the team. Bring on something new for BoP #100!

New Avengers #24: A solo Civil War story featuring the Sentry. I like this character, I wish he'd get more play. And speaking of which, looks like he once had a one nighter with Inhuman Crystal. Interesting reveal.

Secret Six #5: I never thought the Mad Hatter could be interesting OR kickass. Yes, he's crazy, but that's beside the point. This series is almost at an end... thankfully! But I hope the NEW Hatter continues somewhere.

X-Men #192: Still not too terrible to quit. Issues are getting better. Good art.

Trials of Shazam! #3: Not a fan of the DCU Magic club, which is the sandbox where this book likes to play in, but over all a nice read. It's becoming CM3's (Marvel Jr.) book now.

The Boys #3 & #4: Issue #1 didn't win me over, #2 was better... #3-#4 are keeping me on this book. These two issues introduced a "JLA" like team called "The Seven" that act more like rockstars. So wrong.

JSA Classified #18: I only got this for the arc featuring Hourman Vs. Bane. I just like it when a hero fights a villian that's not like... their rogue or anything. Plus it's just an interesting concept.

Superman/Batman Annual #1: This book has been more miss than hit. So me being a comic whore anyway bought this book. I liked a few Clark and Bruce moments, but otherwise wasn't digging it. Then I read reviews online that this book was a great read, but what do I know.

Action Comics #844: The Donner has come, and it is good. I still think it's a stunt, but I bought the book anyway so maybe it worked. I've been off Superman for quite some time, but now I'm reading two monthly Superman titles.... three if you count Supe/Bat. Oh, yeah the story of a boy from Krypton... sure... why not. They've already done it in a movie and pissed me off.

Robin #155: Another story arc is over with a few more threads to explore on. I'm not too sure about the writing just yet, but digging on Freddie Williams II, local boy done good.

X-Men: Civil War #4: I don't know if I'll even read this. I shouldn't buy everything. Need to learn that.

Ion #7: I've only read about half of this so far, I can't believe it's been over a week and I still don't have everything read yet.

Flash #5: That means I haven't read this yet either. This issue will determine if I continue with this book.

Catwoman #60: I'll get to it.
