No Joking Matter...

Monday, July 31

Here's a bit I got from Newsarama.com.

According to multiple sources reporting to Newsarama, including Warner Bros. itself, the next villain to face Batman in the revived film franchise will be the Joker, and he’ll be played by Heath Ledger, proving many early reports of the actor picking up the role true. Assumedly, the sequel will re-tell the origin of the Joker, although which origin will surely be a topic of speculation.

Batman Begins director Christopher Nolan will return to direct the sequel which will simply be called The Dark Knight. According to earlier reports, Christian Bale, Michael Caine and Gary Oldman signed multiple picture contracts and will be returning for The Dark Knight as well as a possible third Bat-movie. Morgan Freeman and Katie Holmes are expected to return to their roles as well, although tabloid scuttlebutt has had Holmes retiring from film work, or not returning to Batman at least.

Screenwriter David Goyer is expected to return as well, and has reportedly already written some 80 pages towards the sequel.

A press release officially announcing Ledger and the title is expected tomorrow morning.

Picture Me in San Diego

Sunday, July 30

Alright, it took some time and some doing but I finally have the majority of my pictures uploaded online.

I say some because I took like 260 plus pictures, so I took that and cut it down to a little under 120 pics. That's somewhat better. Sorry, no captions to explain what's happening for each shot, if you have a question about any of them drop me a line and I'll tell you what's up.

Here ya go:

(FYI: I used Kodak Easyshare to put these up, if you do not already have an account with them, you need only to give them an e-mail address to sign-up and view the photos)

Draw Me In

Thursday, July 27

Behold, my very own dot com.

Let me explain...

A while back I had this crazy idea... actually it was spun out of some contest and I just took it to the next level... anyway, an idea to be draw into comic books, as some sort of movie extra. Just thrown into the background somewhere. And so I started with the site a while back, but just recently started asking professionals in San Diego to see if they would be interested in my campaign. Although I didn't pimp my idea to it's fullest, I did get a few bites so I guess I'll just sit back and wait on those. However for the rest of them out there beware, I'll be hitting up their mailboxes here shortly.

I will be drawn in!

The Day Has Come...

Wednesday, July 19

Probably about the time anybody reads this I shall be on my way (or there already) to San Diego for the Superbowl of comic book conventions. This is my first big con so what better way to break myself in than by going head first into the big one. Overwhelming? We'll see. Excited? You bet.

Hopefully lines won't be insanely long where I'll have to wait ten minutes before I move a foot. Hopefully the bathrooms will be clean. Hopefully I'll buy everything at a reasonable price.

Perhaps I'm being wishful here, regardless, it'll be fun... especially after the dent it has already put into my pocketbook, it better be.

Oh yeah, and by the way....

I'LL BE GONE FOR A LITTLE BIT SO NO REGULAR POSTS.

Later
-Jeff

Ozzy

Last Friday night I went to see Ozzy Osbourne in concert. It was an unplanned tour stop from this years OzzFest Tour. Apparently some city didn't sell many tickets and it was cancelled, and Ozzy used the open date to play here in KC. Sucks for them, great for me!

I purchased the tickets because I only thought to myself when was I ever going to see this man perform before he retires.

It was a little bit on the warm side out on the lawn, but it didn't last too long before the sun started to set.

The opening acts were alright, but I was only really there to see Ozzy. He was fairly entertaining, moving about the stage pretty well for a man who about a year ago was in the news for an accident with a four wheeler. Unfortunately his set was kinda on the short side for a headliner and kept for the most part his more popular songs down at a minimum which was upsetting. Oh well, I still love the man's work.

Comic Book Wednesday

Thursday, July 13

Hello again.

First off let me point out two newcomers to this happy bunch. One is something I really haven't collected for probably years now... and no I don't count Superman/Batman... it's it own thing, I'm talking about just a core Superman book. I think I may get the next issue now that I've read this one, I tend to do that. It's just that I started reading comics via a Superman issue and that kept me going for a lengthy time until they did something in a story that just kinda pissed me off and I stopped reading Superman comics. I forget what year that happened but it was many years ago. Sure I've picked up an occasional issue of something here and there... like the Superman book pictured above, but nothing really made me wanna stick around long term.

The second "newbie" is X-Men. Part two of a X-Men book creative team relaunch. I decided to give this book a shot, adding up my X-books up to three. This too I think I might stick around for the arc, from there we'll see.

Green Arrow shows us just how much badass he has become, and the reintroduction of Speedy after a brief absence.

Green Lantern is getting better. Actually this issue was pretty good, and to spark the fanboy in me they killed off some onetime use Justice League space villain that I actually remembered from my younger days of collecting. The character isn't very important, just the fact that when they said his name I fucking flashed back.

Squadron Supreme: A quick read but good. Short on story, big on character. FYI, these people are all messed up and crazy.

Last, the weekly 52. You can hear the clicks of the sound of the rollercoaster as it's climbing to the top, ready to fall. This book had a decent amount of Clark Kent time in it, a character that hasn't really seen much screen time. He ends up getting fired (temporarily) and gets saved by a new (reintroduced actually) character called Supernova. Now the big question is who's under the mask of Supernova, a secret I think these four writers are going to keep us guessing for a bit longer (or I could be wrong, watch them reveal it next week).

Comic Book Wednesday

Wednesday, July 12

Wow, this is like... so late.

And check out that horrible glare on Outsiders... yuck.

Well, it looks like I got my Walking Dead fix. Volumes three and four of the trades plus the newest issue, and I want more! I got the trades mostly for my girlfriend, who has managed to read them faster than I did when I read the trades. It's kinda cool to see her have at least a partial interest in some of my comic book hobby.

Uncanny X-Men started with a new creative team, one of those new arcs for a jumping on point type deals. The only thing it makes me want to do is read Deadly Genesis which this supposely picks up after. Nice starting on point guys, you know they call these things sequels in my book.

Things are building up in 52. Unfortunately not so much in this issue. Kinda just filler. Look forward to next week. Which is actually today now that I think of it. Heh.

JSA ended! What a horrible last arc. I'll let this uncomfortable feeling settle for a little until it restarts again a few months down the line.

Not only did I have to wait for Secret Six #2 a bit longer than normal, but then it just lost the energy it had from it's Villians United counterpart. They better do something like unveil Batman as Peter Parker or something.

Outsiders and Supergirl... just kinda there really.

Teen Titans... well I'm glad they're done with the Doom Patrol so they can move along with the new team they have. But I did not see that last page coming at all. I read a lot of comic book "news" sites, so I have a lot of things spoiled for me before they come out. But I had a "shocked" moment when I came across those last pages of this book. It's nothing too big I'm sure, again however, just didn't see it coming.

Comic Book Wednesday

Saturday, July 1

Here's my stash for last week. Took me a while to actually read everything I've been so busy.

New Avengers... well, while the Marvel Civil War is going on, things in this book are going to start showcasing individual members and show what side they are on things. Unfortuanately this first issue featuring Captain America shows mostly half of what we already know from reading Civil War and the rest seems so much as just filler that doesn't really need for the story.

Although I've been enjoying Blue Beetle thus far, this issue really did nothing. Twenty two pages of nothing. I don't understand why writers don't just move storys along anymore?

Who can't pass up a comic book for a dollar? Especially with comics priced as they are today? DC Comics released Brave New World for $1, and unless you really cared about Crisis on Infinte Earths or even read comics in the mid 1980's, then this really was just a preview book for everybody else. This book, for the most part, showcased previews for six new titles (most limited, not on-going) including a New Atom, Creeper, and Trials of Shazam!

As much of a DC whore that I am, I was originally going to get just one of the six, a mini-series starting the Martian Manhunter... a character that I always felt didn't get as much play as any of the other "main seven" Justice Leaguers. After reading the short preview, I'm not sure I like the direction they're going. However, I'm now interested in the Trials of Shazam.

52 just brought the storyline along... introduced a few faces... obvious turns in the story.

Ion recaped a bit of Kyle's history, I think I've seen this issue once when he was the star of Green Lantern. Yeah, Deja Vu.

Finally Catwoman, in which we still don't know who is Catwoman's baby's daddy yet, wasn't too bad. I had enjoyed previous issues featuring this creepy villian who's into movies, who has been behind the scenes... however he was more proactive in this issue... and it seemed a bit out of place for the character. Eh?
