Wednesday, August 31

Today I went BACK to the dentist to get a filling. He numbed my mouth, and then started to drill with this hellish device from Hades. I kinda felt a bit of it so he numbed me up some more "so I wouldn't talk bad about him". I still felt it a bit. Damn it. And now the numbness is wearing off, and it doesn't hurt that much, but still kinda does... ya know? So now I'm grumpy.

Plus last night I finally hooked my computer at home back up since Saturday. So my Internet decides not to work. Come to find out I had a virus. So I'm trying to get an anti-virus program up and working. Some four hours later everything is almost back to normal. Including my precious Internet too. *Phew!*

New Media Tuesday

Tuesday, August 30

This week has better offerings than last week. Lets start with music.

Stuff I didn't get included Eric Clapton's new release. The only single I've heard from it sounded like a lost Bob Marley track. Bob Dylan has an album out thanks to Martain Scorsese. Couple or rap stuff that I don't care about this time around.

Stuff that I did get. The new Our Lady Peace album. OLP of course being one of my top five bands, probably of all time, but we'll just say of bands currently still together... so getting this album was a no brainer for me. Picked up the new Cold album. I just have a soft spot for Cold. Liked their old albums and this one is getting praise, so why not.

Movies that came out include Sahara, Crash, Blues Brothers SE, and the first season of Roseane. I could buy a copy of Sahara... FOR ME TO POOP ON! I don't know too much about Crash, and so I have no interest in it right now. I like the copy of The Blues Brothers that I do have, so no need to buy that one twice. Besides, I'll wait a few years for the Special, SPECIAL version to be released. And Roseane. I loved this show. Watched it religiously infact. Not going to buy it on DVD though. Sorry Rosey.

Can't think of anything video game related for this week. That's it for this week then. Comics soon!!!!! Yeah!!!

SUNDAY SUNDAY SUNDAY!!!

Monday, August 29

Who says I don't cater to my friends?

Sunday September 4th, 2005 @ 9:00. My Place. Party.

Why?

For two people we all know and love. First off: Jenny... little miss Jenny has only been back for a few weeks and is already to leave us again. This time, we party.

And for Charlie. Mr. Army himself. I'll let him announce his deal on the message boards himself, but alas, he will be shipping off soon as well. So, party times two!

Congrats and Happy times to all!

Once Upon An Update...

Well, I did type up a long post for Friday but my stupid computer loves to screw me over and failed to upload a decent sized post. HOWEVER, after working at K-mart tonight I'll have some time to devote to the blog again. Like, what I did over the weekend and such... It'll just be a few days late.

Peace out suckas.

Once Upon a Thursday...

Friday, August 26

For a day off of work, it sucked that I didn't get to sleep in. Early Thursday morning I took my Jeep in to the shop for a long list of little repairs that I've put off. Halfway through the day I get a call from the dealership and it goes something like this:

While putting back together your Jeep we broke something... hee hee hee... but we'll repair it on us, cause... it's our fault and all but the part won't get here till tomorrow... so, no Jeep for you.

Bastards.

Last nights' Movie Night wasn't bad. I'm glad everybody seemed to enjoy 'Spaced' as much as I did. Now I have to give it back to it's original owner. I'll have to get my own copy someday. That's all for now. Later.

Concert

Thursday, August 25

The music was so loud I felt it in my crotch.

No, don't get me wrong. That's a good thing.

I guess you could say I had a really good time at last nights concert at Corporate Sellout Amplitheatre. On the bill were four bands:

No Address
Breaking Benjamin
Staind
Three Doors Down

Wednesday at work I was constantly worried about the weather. Is it going to rain? Is it not? Well... it did. But not that bad at the concert though... which is good.
First off I started looking at merchandise. Guess what? It's more expensive than the last time I went to a concert. So I didn't buy a damned thing. I might look on the internet for a Breaking Benjamin shirt though. Up above the lawn seat section where booths were set up I noticed one particular grouping interesting. A UPS jobs booth right next to a Verizon Wireless jobs booth. (Only because of my friend Smalls). I got my picture taken with my girlfriend since I didn't think I'd be able to bring in my camera. So that was nice.
I didn't really know who No Address was at first. They played their first radio single and yeah, I remembered it being played. But even before that, their songs rocked. So I'll be searching for their record the next time I'm around CD's. I even went to a signing area around the stage to buy it and get an autograph but they took their sweet ass time (probably playing Xbox or some shit) so I bailed out of line to watch Breaking Benjamin's set.
Now there's the reason I got the tickets in the first place. I love BB. And four songs in they played 'Home', which is the only song I know how to play start to finish on the guitar. Plus that and the song is just cool.
Staind followed afterwards. It started to rain a bit during their performance. It cooled down so that wasn't bad. They played like their new single and one other song off of their new album. Which is great seeing as I haven't been listening to their new album that just came out two weeks ago. Everything else was like a greatest hits album. One year at a Rockfest concert I had seen Staind before and their lead singer Aaron Lewis can really scream, so I was looking forward to hearing one of those songs where he'd cut loose. No luck though. Oh well.
Between sets, we had to wait a hellish long time for Three Doors Down to get their shit together. The stage was covered up with a drop cloth, but you could still see people setting up the stage (which was really elaborate, and not really interesting). Some guy finally came out and announced a 'techincal difficulity'. Yeah, after the band finally DID come out and played like two songs the lead singer Brad Arnold addressed the crowd to appologize for the delay and oh yeah, some guy was suspected of bringing a gun backstage but it was just a false alarm.
The first time I had seen Three Doors Down I didn't actually come for them and left way before they had finished. Well guess what, same thing went for last night. They played a good eight or so songs (not saying all eight were good), and left early to beat the traffic leaving. Yes, I had a great time. There's nothing quite like live and loud rock!

Back in Plaque

Tuesday, August 23

Went to the dentist today. I always put off my cleanings. Not that I don't have a fear of going to the dentist, I really don't. Of course I don't have the joy in going either. I'm just lazy about it.

So I'm sitting in the chair while I get my teeth scraped up and polished. I dread that scraping, it's like nails on a chalkboard that so happens to be the inside of my mouth! I cringe through that, all the while this horrible country music is playing in the background.

Talk about insult to injury.

In case you were wondering (or caring), I get to go back next week to get a new filling! Yippie for dentists!

New Media Tuesdays

Alrighty. This is going to be one in an attempt to keep a series of regular posts on the site. Enter: New Media Tuesdays!

Around every Tuesday I'm going to attempt to talk about new releases for DVD's, Music, and Video Games for that week. Just kind of talking about stuff I'm interested in or plan to buy. Something along those lines. So what do I do? I pick a week with hardly anything really good to start off with. In fact, I purchased nothing.

First we got Gladiator: Special Edition and a newer release of The Transporter (to coincide with the theatrical release of the sequel). I liked Gladiator a lot. Not enough to shell out $30 for the Special Edition though.

A Lot Like Love and Layer Cake are probably the closest things to being rentals as we're going to get this week. And for the most part those choices are going to be other people suggesting to watch them.

I haven't heard or seen anything music related this week that caught my eye. The only video game that I THINK to come out this week is possibly the new Hulk game. I played the demo for it and yes, it is fun to SMASH everything insight. But that's about it as far as the demo goes. Maybe I'll play the real thing someday.

That's it for this short non-exciting week of New Media Tuesdays. Looking forward to next week.

Cable Company Calls Woman Nasty Name On Bill

POSTED: 1:39 pm CDT August 19, 2005

UPDATED: 7:34 am CDT August 22, 2005

ELGIN, Ill. -- Philadelphia-based Comcast is apologizing for an insulting epithet on a bill.

LaChania Govan made dozens of phone calls to the cable company to complain about service, but she said she was never rude.

So the Elgin, Ill., woman was shocked when her bill came and had the insult printed where her name should be.

Instead of her name, the bill had the "b" word printed on it.

Wednesday, Comcast said it fired two employees for the incident and also issued an apology to Govan.

"We are appalled by this treatment of our customer and want to extend our sincerest apologies" to LaChania Govan, the company said Wednesday in a statement. "This is not the way Comcast does business."
Comcast officials offered Govan two months of free cable to try to make amends.

But she's canceled her Comcast account, anyway.

Weekend in Review

Sunday, August 21

Here's what I did over the weekend.

Friday after work I went to the local theatre with my girlfriend to watch The 40 Year Old Virgin. It was a very funny movie. It kinda hit close to home, as there were several reminders of a similar person I know with a lifestyle both past and present. Ok that person is me. Of course the movie is a bit more... embellished than my life. Similarities aside, I thought it made a few nice points, and enjoyed the over use of language in it. Again, very funny.

Saturday night's alright for fighting. At least at my friend Chuck's house. He had a party at his house. There were a few of our collective bunch of friends there, and a bunch of his friends. They were a happy, ... um... active bunch. Right before I left, Chuck and a few others brought out boxing gloves and started to ... um, box. Really glad I ended that fad at my parties. Thanks for the good time man.

Both Saturday and Sunday I worked so it was a short weekend. After putting in my eight hours Sunday I did a few housekeeping chores that I had ignored for a week and cooked dinner for my girlfriend. She later took me over to her uncle's house to shoot pool for a little bit. Just kind of wrapping things up here typing the ol' blog and watching Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman on Cartoon Network.

That was my weekend. Now to look forward to an interesting week. Later.

Worlds of Fun Friday

Sunday, August 14

So my girlfriend and I decided to skip work on Friday to go to Worlds of Fun. Started off as a good idea, until we woke up Friday morning to thundering rain showers. But around 10:00am it cleared up and we decided to go ahead. And I'm glad we did. It was a good day for it. I always worry about large crowds (long lines) and school not in yet (lots of kids). But the clouds made for some nice shade and the kiddies were at a minimum.

Rode a lot of rides. Just about everything at least once. Usually I just like the Mamba and ride it over and over. But I ended up riding a lot of things I've just avoided for the longest time and now feel dumb for ever doing that. Simple rides at that too. The ThunderHawk, Cyclone Sam's, Zulu, and the Bamboozler.

It was a great day to spend with my girlfriend. Something that just the two of us could do, to kill the better half of a day.

Spaced Out!

Saturday, August 13

Last week I was introduced to a great show called Spaced. It's a British television show by the same crew who were invovled with Shaun of the Dead, just done a few years earlier. But you can see the beginnings of 'Shaun' in 'Spaced'.

This show is truly a fanboy/girls heaven. Wonderfully laced with tons of pop culture references. Television, movies, comics and videogames. It's truly awesome. The series follows the continuing voyages of confused twenty-somethings, Daisy (Jessica Stevenson) and Tim (Simon Pegg) as they attempt to navigate life at a time when they should be getting serious but somehow are not. The beginning plot sounds like something out of Three's Company. They must convince their landlord that they are a couple to rent their London flat. Other than that, hilarity ensues.

You like Ewok sing-a-longs? How about techno remixes of the A-Team theme? An argument played out like a match of Tekken? Hell, I laughed at a gag about Murder She Wrote. It's well written and everything from the wacked out acting to camera angles will make you laugh. If you liked Shaun of the Dead a lot, then this is what started it, and I'm glad to have seen it at all, considering it hasn't been shown in the States. Get a copy of this and watch it.

Simulate This, Mr. President!

JFK Hilarious

In November of 2004 a videogame entitled "JFK Reloaded" stirred up a firestorm in the media. The game allowed you to spend roughly a minute in the Dallas Book Depository as Lee Harvey Oswald. The stated intent of the game was to help disprove multiple shooter theories by allowing a person to recreate the seemingly impossible bullet trajectories during the assassination of John F. Kennedy. The usual suspects in the media erupted in the usual outrage. Ted Kennedy was understandably upset and Joseph Lieberman was unsurprisingly even more upset. It was another example of outrageous violence in videogames. Why, it was a trainer teaching kids how to kill the president!

I Have Issues

Tuesday, August 9

I admit it. I spend enough on comics every month. And I keep adding to an already big list of titles. I just can't bring myself to drop any of them. I only usually do when my hand is forced and they're cancelled. But then they're restarted later on usually. Something about starting over at issue #1 is good for sales I've heard. But anyway... as of today this is my current stash.
  • Aquaman
  • Batgirl
  • Batman
  • Birds of Prey
  • Catwoman
  • Green Arrow
  • Green Lantern
  • Invincible
  • JLA
  • JSA
  • Outsiders
  • Robin
  • Superman/Batman
  • Teen Titans
And a few Mini-series including...
  • DC Special: Return of Donna Troy
  • The OMAC Project
  • Rann-Thannagar War
  • Villians United
Now the Mini-series will be ending soon but I've all but replaced them already. Recently to my list I've added...
  • The New Avengers
  • Sentinel
  • Supergirl
I think this is the reason I work two jobs. But what an addiction huh? Oh yeah. Let me take this time to thank my father. The man who probably regrets ever buying Superman #75 way back in November of 1992. It was the death of Superman issue, the one that started it all. Thanks Dad!

Post Number Thirty

So, I'm getting off of work tonight and I'm walking to my Jeep when I notice a car drive by on the street. I don't normally notice cars from that far of a distance, but only this one cause it was blaring it's stereo. Why is this of any notable value? Perhaps because the driver had "Rock Me Amadeus" by Falco playing really loud. What the hell?

Sweet Dreams Are Made of These....

Zombies of course.

Last night I had this weird dream. It was night and the town was run rampant with hordes of zombies. I was safe locked up in my house, and a few of my friends where there. Couldn't exactly remember who except one, but we'll get there soon enough. So in the dream I had to go to the bathroom. I walk in and in my bathroom I have a window, and the curtains were parted just enough for a few zombies to look through. This prompted one (a small girl) of them to break the window and crawl through. During of which time I grabbed an aluminum baseball bat but could only keep her at bay... poking, keeping her the bat's distance away. I still have to go, so I give the bat to my friend to keep the zombie occupied, when he just wacks away at her, and looking back on the dream... seems so comical to me now. He just went to town on this thing. I guess it didn't really matter much cause when I finally made it to the bathroom I was attacked by another zombie (a small boy this time), and that's where my dream ended. Except when I woke up I really had to piss.

Let's see... the moral for the story is... If you have to pee really bad, kill whoever you have too.

General Lee Speaking

Sunday, August 7

Had the pleasure of seeing the new Dukes of Hazzard movie over the weekend.

Many critics have ripped this movie and called it crap. And they're kind of right, to a degree. It's not original. Of course not. It was a TV show first. And it's not like the show. Boo hoo. Doesn't bother me none cause guess what... I never watched it. It was mindless entertainment. Pure and simple. Infact, anything resembling a plot I think could have passed as a hour long episode of the show. Dukes was funny yes. And the car chases were over the top, but enjoyable. Jessica Simpson, yes she's hot but guess what, not in the film that much. There's plenty of other eye candy in the movie to fill space, so don't worry. But we'll see if this does anything for her "acting career".

Seann William Scott really steals this film. Johnny Knoxville really doesn't do too much for it. The sound track kicks ass, seriously rocks. Best of all... a few nice surprises by the Broken Lizard gang. In the theatre or wait for DVD. It's at least worth a viewing.

Check out this crap from the WB. This news sucks.

The WB's Fall 2005 schedule has been announced, and Smallville is finally leaving its very-busy Wednesday-at-8 timeslot.

Look for Clark & the crew to be on Thursday nights as they take on their college years starting this Fall.

God I Love This Show

Tuesday, August 2

In the mail today I got an autographed picture by the entire cast of Joan of Arcadia, courtesy of eBay. Joan of Arcadia aired originally on Friday nights on CBS, however I'm generally not much of a Primetime TV viewer, only occasionally watching an episode of Smallville, my other TV love. But it wasn't until the release of the first season on DVD that I ever really watched a single episode. Now I'm hooked.

I can remember being in Las Vegas in the MGM Grand at this place where they were showing pilots for up-coming shows. Now the show I got to watch wasn't Joan, nor did it ever make it to television, but outside they (CBS) were plugging Joan of Arcadia just non-stop. And watching the same trailer over and over, I actually thought it wasn't too bad and wanted to watch it. Unfortunately for me the show was cancelled after only two seasons. Low ratings I guess. It'd be nice if the show got a DVD fan base but unlike Family Guy, I highly doubt this live action show could ever be resurrected.

Electricity Hates the Boy Scouts of America

Monday, August 1

by Zack Parsons - http://www.somethingawful.com/

...this is fast becoming the summer of the Boy Scout. Five Boy Scout troop leaders, a volunteer, and a Boy Scout have been killed in the past week. Four troop leaders died when they were erecting a tent and dropped a metal pole onto a power line. Later a volunteer at the jamboree died from a heat-related heart attack. The other troop leader and the Boy Scout died during a lightning storm.

Most of these deaths occurred at the annual national scout Jamboree being held in Virginia. After the incidents President Bush scheduled a trip to visit and console the Boy Scouts. This did not go as planned.

More than 300 Boy Scouts were sickened by the heat Wednesday while waiting for President Bush to arrive at a memorial service for four Scout leaders. Soldiers carried Scouts on stretchers to the base hospital, and others were airlifted from the event. Although that article doesn't mention it, Bush cancelled the visit due to a possible thunderstorm in the area while the Boy Scouts dropped like flies from the heat because of Secret Service orders to be seated and waiting two full hours before Bush's arrival. That's not really Bush's fault, but it sure adds insult (and more injury) to injury for the long suffering Boy Scouts. When Bush finally showed up he gave a solemn speech to the increasingly depopulated Jamboree.

``As Scout leaders, they devoted themselves to helping young men develop the character and skills they need to realize their dreams. These men will always be remembered for their leadership and kindness, and you Scouts honor them by living up to the ideals of the Scouting they served.''

Friends and Family Weekend

Well I had a social weekend. On Friday night I hosted a party at my house. Most of everybody I invited showed, one even at 2:45 in the morning. It was fun, and I think everybody else had fun, except some of my single friends complained about a lack of single girls to flirt with/get drunk. But oh well.

The next morning, still reeling from a headache, I went with a few of my friends to the city to visit comic book stores and what not. In an attempt at saving money I ended up only purchasing one thing during the entire trip. I picked up the latest issue of The New Avengers. I want to start reading that one, so add another Marvel title to my list. Yes. A Marvel book.

Later that day my father invites Rachael and I out to breakfast with my stepmom and her family. So Sunday morning we eat and afterwards go over to my Dad's. I am then reminded of some stuff I have in storage at my Grandparents house and get my Dad to help me (cause he has a truck and all). We drive out there and then get talked into staying for a dinner with more family. Apparently more relatives were coming out that day and they just as well thought I was working (which I did later but that's beside the point). So Sunday was a nice day with family. Fun, fun, fun. Hope everybody else had a nice weekend too.
